Gloria Seeks National Title Next Friday will be remembered by a 17-year-old raven haired beauty from Orange, Calif., as she dances to a jazz interpretation of a motion picture's musical theme. Gloria Gonzales, Miss Teenage Los Angeles, will compete with beauty queens from other parts of the nation for the title of Miss Teenage America. Gloria, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Gonzales, 612 Chalynn Circle, is a 1964 graduate of Orange High School. She plans to attend California State College at Fullerton and majors in theatre arts. "I'm told the girl from a small town usually wins the pageant and I'm from the best small town in Orange County," she said. Her mother and representatives of the Los Angeles pageant will accompany her to the finals. "What is the wildest make-up scheme you can imagine?" was the final question asked Oct. 17 before judges selected the Orange beauty as California's teenage queen. "I just answered "green eyebrows, purple eyeshadow, blue lips and a bright, pink hairdo," she explained. Imagination was only part of the finalist setlection at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. An accomplished ballet and modern dancer and choreographer, Gloria added up pints with a "dance to modern jazz interpretation of the musical theme from "Lawrence of Arabia." She will perform the game dance for Dallas judges Friday, she said. "I've rented a wild Arabian harem girls costume for my dance—but it does have some demure, olive - complexion queen mainly of hand and movement and its 'sorts sexy.'" Gloria was active in the Club, Drama Club and student council at Orange High School. El Toro Celebrates Marines' 'Birthday' Since the early days of aircraft when bi-wing planes were held together with baling wire, canvass and a prayer, Marine pilots have been pioneers in the field of military air tactics and support of ground forces. The ability of Marine aviation and ground units to bring their closely coordinated airground attack to bear against an enemy has figured prominently in recognition of the Corps as the naion's force-in-readiness. Mars Anniversary Tuesday Nov. 10, the United States Marine Corps celebrates its 189th anniversary. Significantly, the date also marks the anniversary of El Toro's 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. Water System Update City Manager George Weimer said today that the first step to be taken in a plan to provide the city with adequate water facilities for the future is the installation of two connections with the Metropolitan Water System. These connections will be made at Heim and Tustin and LaVeta and Tustin. Money for the project has been assured by the passage of the $9.8 million water bond issue in Tuesday's General Election. Also in the books on the not too distant future is construction of a million gallon tank in the Kohl Hills area, Weimer said. Preliminary work leading to passage of the bond issue was started last May. Growth A Factor The $9,850,000 is required to construct adequate water facilities in line with potential growth of the city. This figure was contained in a report submitted to the City Council early in May by Boyle Engineering of Santa Ana. The report contained a prediction that the population of Orange would number 150,000 1990. Authorized by the council last the survey indicated that they city's future growth would hinge on an adequate water supply. Proposed facilities also would assure the city of a continued adequate and reliable water supply in the future. Ray emphasized that study costs are for present day construction prices and that if the facilities were delayed, the project cost would increase. Orange now owns and operates a domestic water supply and distribution system which serves an area of 14.5 square miles. Boyle engineers said that in the past Orange has been primarily a residential community service surrounding agricultural areas but that the community is experiencing an accelerated growth including more residential, commercial and industrial development. The water report, compiled at a cost of $8,000, brought out that future boundaries of Orange will include some adjacent unincorporated lands. Expansion of nearby incorporated cities also will influence Orange's ultimate boundaries. The storm, which buffeted the city for the past 36 hours, was not expected to diminish for at least another 24 hours. The rainstorm, accompanied by low temperatures, had dumped .24 inches of rain on the Orange area by 7:00 a.m. today. So far this year, the city registered .53 inches as compared to 3.99 inches during the same period last year. Hats, umbrellas and raincoats were the rig of the day for workers and shoppers as they went about their day-to-day routines. Wet streets made driving conditions hazardous but no serious traffic accidents were reported by police since the rain started early Monday. Amount Varied The rainfall varied in different parts of the county. Anaheim registered .35 inches which brought this year's total in that area to .44 inches.
