Water temperatures are now hovering around the 66-68 degree mark, and all other elements are nearly ideal for this last late beginning spurt of the albacore but so far the elusive long fins don't seem to care. Another factor has been the rough water in the area which isn't helping a bit. The barracuda and haliburge are getting stronger every week, and some beautiful love are coming from Catalina. The big ones are around 7 pounds with the heaviest going 11 lbs. Sunday seemed to be the best day yet for halibut. Davey reported more than 60 boated and more on Monday.
The boat skippers are sailing about the big yellows of the water. The boys are hooning them but can't seem to hear too many. There's a special way to handle those big ones so some tips from the boat crew before you hook your next yelow.
Local coast fishing is still hot with still loads of boats along with bass. A few whale sea bass and rock fish are beginning to show up. There are some big blacks mixing with the yellow tail off the island.
The landings all report loads on most of the boats, with plenty of 'elbow room' so another look at that rod and nausea now's the time to go.

MAJOR COUNTY INLET
Delivery Line Dedication Set
Dedication ceremonies for Orange County's new major water delivery line, built at a cost of approximately $20 million, will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Coastal Junction Pressure Control Structure on Barranca Road near Culver Road.
The 24-mile-long pipeline has been under construction since 1982 and will deliver vitally-needed Colorado River water to rapidly growing areas in eastern and southern Orange County.
The line was built under a joint-powers agreement entered into by the Metropolitan Water District, Orange County Municipal Water District, Coastal Municipal Water District, and the cities of Anaheim and Santa Ana. Each of the agencies paid its proportionate share of the cost.
Known as East Orange County Feeder Number Two, the line extends from Metropolitan's Robert B. Diemer Filtration Plant near Yorba Linda south to a reservoir being constructed by the Irvine Ranch Water District near Corona del Mar. MWD will operate and maintain the resevoir.
Participants in the dedication ceremonies will include Clem M. McCulloch, president of the Orange County MWD; Glenn P. Allen, a director of both Metropolitan and OCMWD; Carl Thornton, Santa Ana city manager; A. J. Schutte, Anaheim city councilman; Stuart W. Avis, Coastal MWD director; Joseph Jensen, Board chairman, Metropolitan Water District; and Robert A. Skinner, MWD general manager and chief engineer.

Federal mediator Earl J. Dy has been assigned to assist in the bargaining talks, with involve seven teamsters and 42 companies in Los Angeles, Orange, and parts of Pasadena and San Bernardino counties.
In the grocery delivery issue, the Teamsters Union was expected to set a strike date within the next few days.
However, Federal Mediator William Rose said the union has agreed to the Federal Mediation Service request for an extension of the no-strike promise at least until after further joint bargaining talks Friday in Los Angeles.
He and Mediator Ron Hagist recessed the negotiations late Wednesday until 10 a.m. Friday "in hopes that the parties will have an opportunity to evaluate their respective positions and return to the bargaining table in a more affirmative manner."
