A major league baseball team can be expected to bring from $0-$15 million a year of new money into a community, according to Bud Nagel, public information officer.
Nagel cited statistics of the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins that for each one million attendance more than $9 million in income was realized, not including in-stadium revenues. The Minnesota Twins play to a population of five million over a 330 mile radius while Anaheim is able to draw from a 5½ million population in a 50 mile radius.
The size of Anaheim and the metropolitan area of Orange County is larger than Cincinnati or Kansas City. Philadelphia and Detroit have decreased in population while all predictions for Orange County for future increase are well known. Nagel said.
"Baseball is the national sport, a family sport, we are a family-oriented community with our conventions billed as a convention center to bring the family.
The boon to industria development, and world-wide recognition were cited by Nagel as factors for having the courage to follow through with the project.

Questions from the floor were received from Bill Krebs as to the source of the auto racing proposal. The Disabled American Veterans of Anaheim was named as the originator of the proposal.
Pat Scalera, a "homeowner" asked a series of 15 questions which were answered individually. On the question of whether the taxpayers would be subsidizing the project, Councilman Fred Krein stated that "some subsidy will be paid but will be overcome by more revenue such as the proposed "needle restaurant" which proposed to pay $350,000 in taxes alone."
As to an "old line local firm" not being selected as financial consultant, it was stated by Councilman Jack Dutton that "we hired someone to act as our agent who would have no advantage of prior knowledge in bidding on the bonds, as the "old line local firm" would have had."
The Del Webb firm has not been given "carte blanche." The contract they will be offered will give 11 per cent to cover architectural fees, management costs and profit and the company was chosen because "they made the most responsible offer and could deliver the completion date of April, 1966.
Larry Knoggel raised the question of cost of additional storm drains for the area. Jim Maddux explained the storm drains were already proposed but will be expedited. Knoggel also asked why not put the stadium issue to

The boon to industry development, and world-wide recognition were cited by Nagel as factors for having the courage to follow through with the project.
The financing was explained by Finance Director Doug Ogden. Income is expected to come from the baseball lease, concessions and parking. The lease provides for 7½ per cent of admissions to go to the city if attendance exceeds two million the figure would be 10 per cent.
The city will receive one-third the net income of concessions and one-half the net for parking.
Other revenues would be sought from professional, college, and high school football, circuses, rodeo, boxing championships, religious gatherings, celebrity shows and advertising. A proposal for auto racing has been received and based on one facility in the southland, the revenue would be $100,000 to $400,000. Ogden stated.
Mayor Chuck Chandler stated that basically the City of Anaheim would run the stadium and the Angel would give the city 33 percent of the concessions and 50 per cent for parking. The lease was written so as to prevent a possessory interest tax. He stated a stadium club would be established only if economically feasible.
Leonard Smith, chairman of the non-profit corporation, reiterated the explanation of his groups function and former Mayor Rex Coons stated the
Convention Center
The Convention Center to be built between Harbor Blvd. and West St. on Katella Ave., is to be located on 30 acres in an L-shape area with construction to begin in January, 1965 and completion in September or October of 1966. The Arena for various sports activities and conventions would have 5500 seats with a total of 125,000 sq. ft. with an additional exhibit hall space of 100,000 sq. ft. for large trade shows. Some 30 meeting rooms are planned to accommodate 360 persons in various sized rooms. Total area of the building is 375,000 sq. ft. Office area for the manager and press lounge and press facilities are planned.
The vast need for such a center was told by Doug Farley of the Visitors and Convention Bureau who stated there are now 3450 hotel and motel rooms in Anaheim and 4600 proposed for the future with the construction of large hotels. That the bed tax thus far in 11½ months has provided some $300,000 in revenue and with future recreational facilities being built the "tremendous reaction to the area is already being felt."

Councilman Schutte expressed his optimism in the future of the city as did Councilman Dutton. "Disney didn't stumble onto Anaheim by accident, he had the statistics showing him the center of population in the Southern California area as well as the climatic conditions, free-way accessibility and the fact that people are working fewer hours and get more money. Time alone will bear out the wisdom of our actions," Dutton said.

Expanded Budget For City of Hope
City of Hope President Seymour Graff announced board of directors approval of plans to raise an extra million dollars for expansion of the heart program at the free nonsectarian medical and research center.
The current annual budget exceeds seven million dollars.
Approval of the additional million gives new impetus to both patient care and research aspects of the already-growing heart program, said the City of Hope leader.
Within the past 12 months, Dr. Francis X. Byron, noted Los Angeles heart surgeon, and Dr. Simon Rodbard, widely known medical cardiologist of Buffalo and Chicago, have joined the City of Hope professional staff.
In their respective specialties, both men have extended the medical center's heart program into new areas of service and investigation.
Dr. Rodbard and his group have initiated their studies in the Gene Autry Heart Research Laboratory, opened last April and made possible by the famed sportsman-philanthropist and his associates.
