"Lady" Ends Successful Run Sunday
“My Fair Lady,” current Melodyland Theatre stage offering, winds up a highly successful four week run Sunday night, Jun 7. Opening next, on Tuesday, June 9, is Rodgers and Hammerstein’s exciting “The Sound of Music” starring Dorothy Collins and Richard Eastham, and featuring Katherine Hilgenberg and Werner Klemper.
In signing Miss Collins to play the part of Maria, Melodyland Theatre producers Sammy Lewis and Danny Dare scored a genuine coup. The diminutive singing star, who rose to national prominence on the “Lucky Strike Hit Parade,” is now in tremendous demand as a leading lady by most of the Eastern musical theatres, and Dorothy, who had never played the West Coast before, cancelled a number of engagements to appear in the Anaheim theatre in-the-round.
Eastham, signed a few months ago for the key role of George Von Trapp, which was created on Broadway by Theodore Bikel, is a prime Melodyland Theatre favorite, having scored a great personal triumph as Emile De Becque in “South Pacific” last summer. The actor-singer is well known to television audiences as the crusad.

I couldn't even guess how long it would take to count from one to 2 quadrillion-600 trillion, because such a figure is so colossal. Yet that's the number of different connections in the Bell System's switching equipment. And they make it possible for any one of the 68 million telephones in the System's network to reach any other phone. But because this switching is done so swiftly, you'll never be aware of all the mechanical decisions it takes to pick a path from your number to the one you're dialing. Yes, 2,600,000,000,000 adds up—to speed and dependability whenever you phone.

Did you know the word telephone comes from the Greek "tele" meaning far off, and "phone" meaning voice?
Bazaars are the fantastic "supermarkets" of the Middle East. There, amid the crowds and the cries of shopkeepers, you can find everything imaginable—and some things that aren't. But, did you know there's an even wider selection of goods and services right in the Yellow Pages of your own phone book? Next time, why not check them out before you shop. The Yellow Pages is one bazaar you can go through without leaving the comfort of your easy chair.
Telephone people recently installed the "hottest" communications system anywhere. They put armor plate around phone equipment at the Pacific Missile Range to keep it from burning up during rocket blast-off. Because the phone serves every operation important to countdown, its protection is vital to launchings.
WHAT TO DO TO GET HELP IN AN EMERGENCY
If you don't have a list of emergency numbers handy, dial "O" for Operator. She's trained to handle these situations and she has all the numbers of vital services at her fingertips. Try to give her as much information as you can, including the number you're calling from and the nature and location of the emergency. It's good to know your telephone operator is always there, ready to help.

Hall Given Honors As Top Student
Laurence C. Hall, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Thomas Hall of 209 N. Monterey, Anaheim,
today has been named the winner of the Outstanding Student Award at Savanna High School.
The announcement was made jointly by School Counseling Chairman Elbert Bales and Donald Fylpaa, manager of the Anaheim office of California Federal Savings. The savings firm annually sponsors the award at the local school in cooperation with the California Savings and Loan League.
Hall, who received a cash award and bronze medallion, plans to attend the University of California at Riverside and to major in history for a career as a teacher. He earned seven varsity letters in three major sports.
Sponsors say the award program officers financial inducements to encourage students to achieve high scholastic standings and participate in extra curricular activities which help develop leadership.
