YMCA Activities
NORTH ORANGE COUNTY'S YMCA building fund climbs closer to its half-million-dollar goal, as C. Harper Brubaker (left), Hughes Aircraft Company vice president and group executive of Hughes-Fullerton, presents the first installment of his company's pledge of $7500 to Irvin Chapman, chairman of the fund's Big Gifts Committee. Dr. Lynn Sheller, YMCA president, looks on. Tentative plans call for YMCA building activities to begin early in 1964, Sheller said.
Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Belgium, England; and Ireland, and will last 43 days. Flying from Europe to New York, the group will tour the Worlds Fair, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Radio City, and China Town. They will arrive in Washington, D.C. the following day and see the Government Building, Senate; Capitol, White House, and Mt. Vernon.
The time is getting short and interested persons should contact the Anaheim YMCA immediately at 535-2165.
The Anaheim YMCA is sponsoring this tour because they believe in the experience of world friendship and consider youth our greatest ambassadors.
The Anaheim YMCA is a member agency of United Fund.
The annual Anaheim YMCA area Camp Osceola work camp is scheduled for May 30-31, it was announced by William C. Poirier, Anaheim YMCA General Secretary.
Over a hundred Y workers and family members are scheduled to join in a variety of projects.
Then to match the outfits she makes the girls, she also makes matching outfits for the girl's dolls. And cook? Mom makes the best apple pies in the world. Her homemade goodies are better than anything you can get at a bakery. It's really great to come from from school and find hot homemade cinnamon buns waiting for us. Mom washes just about every day and believe me it is a job, especially when the clothes falls down. Ironing is no easy chore either, but Mom's training us — the older one's do their own ironing and the little ones do hankies. But all in all it's a big job.
My Mother has her feet on the ground. She doesn't grow up.

The annual Anaheim YMCA area Camp Osceola work camp is scheduled for May 20-31, it was announced by William C. Poirier, Anaheim YMCA General Secretary.
Over a hundred Y workers and family members are scheduled to join in a variety of projects to prepare the camp located at 7,000 feet elevation for a capacity attendance this summer. Families will attend and share in repairing cabins, painting, carpentry, and campfire area improvements. An evening campfire in the Y lodge is planned.
Anaheim leadership on the Orange County Y Camp Committee includes Charles Bush, A. L. Mahoney, Ted Payne, Wilbert Bonney, Walt Schmitt, and Marion Disbennett.
The Y-Beta Phi's, a sophomore Tri-Hi-Y club at Magnolia High School, recently held a Mother and Daughter Dessert at the Anaheim YMCA building.
The program consisted of a welcome made by Mrs. Florene Pebley and Devotions by Mrs. Jan Huffman. A piano solo was given by Norma MacKinnon, a member of the club. Guest speaker for the evening was Mrs. Nan Moore, girls program director of the Anaheim YMCA.
Highlighting the program was the "Mother Of The Year Award" presented by Mrs. Pebley. Tension had been mounting for the past month among the girls as each girl was asked to submit an essay on why her Mother should receive the award. Essays were read by Mrs. Huffman, Mrs. Pebley, and Mrs. Moore and identified only by numbers. The winning essay was kept a secret until Mrs. Pebley read the essay and made the presentation. Mrs. Randall E. Stark received the "Award" on behalf of the club and her daughter who wrote it, Lauri Stark.
Following is the contents of the essay: Like any American girl, I think my Mother is the greatest in the world. She find hot homemade cinnamon buns waiting for us. Mom washes just about every day and believe me it is a job, especially when the clothes pool falls down. Ironing is no easy chore either, but Mom's training us — the older one's do all their own ironing and the little ones do hankies. But all in all it's a big job.
My Mother has her feet on the ground. She doesn't grow in this modern idealistic world. She accepts reality and carries on from there. She doesn't build up things, but takes them all they are. I think that's the way a Mom should be. Knowing what they want and have firm opinion.
So as far as I'm concerned my Mom can remain president

Pebley, and Mrs. Moore and identified only by numbers. The winning essay was kept a secret until Mrs. Pebley read the essay and made the presentation. Mrs. Randall E. Stark received the "Award" on behalf of the club and her daughter who wrote it, Lauri Stark.
Following is the contents of the essay: Like any American girl, I think my Mother is the greatest in the world. She doesn't have an easy job with a family of 7. She works hard from dawn till she goes to bed. From packing lunches in the morning to tucking the little ones in at night.
My Mother cares, — she cares where I go and with who I go. She cares about the rest of us. Mom worries when we're late and is relieved when we show up. It's nice to know someone cares, loves and worries about you.
Mom doesn't belong to any bridge club or sewing circle, but she belongs to our club — the family. She doesn't work, but stays at home where a Mother belongs. No, don't get the wrong idea, my Mom doesn't sit in a rocker knitting slippers — we're an active family and fun isn't fun without Mom. Some Mothers might frown on going to the tidal flats in high heels and church clothes, but my Mom didn't. Some Moms might object to sleeping in the front seat of a station wagon for 10 nights in a row, but my Mom didn't — and she didn't. How many Moms would do that? How many Moms play ball and tag with their kids? My Mom does.
I think my Mom is a terrific sport. She can take jokes, but she's human too, and needs compliments. She gets and deserves many for all she does. My Mom sews just about all the little ones clothes and some for us older ones. The clothes look professional and well finished.
