Anaheim Boy Scouts and the Anaheim Downtown Kiwanis Club hope to have the answer 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2. At that moment, the 1964 edition of the annual Scout-Kiwanis pancake breakfast will have become a part of modern flap-jack history. While attendance in the past has been in the neighborhood of 700 to 800, this year’s goal is 1,000, according to Stanley J. Pawlowski, Kiwanis director and breakfast chairman. With the big-breakfast-at-small-price reputation built up in previous years, that goal is attainable. Pawlowski added For 75 cents, hungry customers will receive pancakes, sausage, and milk or coffee. As an added attraction, Disneyland has promised to send over Captain Magic to perform wondrous feats of legerdemain. The first flapjacks will flop Men In Service JOHN C. FLICK, builder third class, UN, husband of the former Miss Elizabeth Dunn of 919 Cambria, was promoted to his present rate while serving with ENT Cooperation Sought Teenage Drivers met for breakfast this week at Brothers Chuckhouse, with Ed Dunn, Chairman. "The only thing standing between a youngster and a car is the small word, 'no', and it is the parents who must say it," according to the report from a large insurance company. There is a definite correlation between students' grades and use of, or ownership of, an automobile. Students given free rein on use of the family car tend to drop by one grade point per year. When the student has a job and a car, or when he is working to purchase a car, the tendency is to devote too much time to supporting the vehicle. An alarming number of these students drop to a failing level. "Teenagers have an amazing ability to act quickly in situations of danger, but this ability is easily cancelled out by lack of judgment." The study shows that 34 per cent of the senior boys polled had been involved in accidents and that 90 per cent of all teenage drivers will have an accident over a period of three years. Great emphasis was placed on the opportunity driving educators and parents have in developing proper attitudes toward driving. Captain King of the Fullerton Police Dept. called attention to the fact that the law enforcement agency must see that all rights of all people on the highway are the same and that penalties commensurate with the violation are swift and just. Parents help their children far beyond the immediate moment when they place reasonable restrictions upon the use of the family automobile or on the child's determination to own an utilities that require a certain level of formal education. "The Safety Committee of the Fullerton Chamber works closely with the police and fire departments of the City for the purpose of helping to improve all aspects of public safety. Through our own discussion, safety projects, and through making available information from reports we receive, we hope to implement the process of public education for greater safety," said Dunn. The next meeting of the Safety Committee will be May 4. Nat King Cole In Return Engagement Nat King Cole, who opens a week's return engagement at Melodyland Theatre Friday night, April 24th, can boast of having started a number of "minor" revolutions some years back in a half dozen South American countries. Nat's revolutions, however, were happy and peaceful, and occasioned when he visited such cities as Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Caracas, Santiago and Lima in his 1959 tour of the Latin-American continent. Cole's enthusiastic fans, by the hundreds of thousands, would storm the airports whenever he flew in. No skulls were cracked, nobody was hurt and no governments fell, although the welcoming mobs were restrained. Performing Arts Presents Dorsey The Tommy Dorsey Band, presented by Tino Barzie under the auspices of the Orange County Performing Arts Foundation, is set for a one-night playdate at Long Beach Municipal Auditorium this coming Monday night, April 27th. Bright singing stars of the group are Frank Sinatra, Jr., Helen Forrest and The Pied Pipers, who sang in the old days with the late Maestro Dorsey. Trumpet man Charlie Shavers is also a stellar attraction, with such featured performers as lovely vocalist Jeannie Thomas and trombonist Larry O'Brien. Saxophonist Sam Donahue is director of the musical aggregation, which is currently on an international tour, scheduled to play in over a score of foreign cities, where "pops" music, American style, is popular. Tickets are $2, $3 and $4; on sale at the Auditorium box office, all Mutual Agencies and Wallichs Music Cities. Harvard '38 Alumni Hold 26th Reunion Alumni from the Harvard University Class of 1938 and their families, residing in California, will hold their 26th Year Reunion in Palm Springs May 15, 16 and 17, according to an announcement today by the Town Crier for the group, Bernard F. Kamins of Beverly Hills. Dr. Charles Hutter of Hollywood, Mayor of the California Colony in this area, is program chairman. Others on the arrangements committee are Maurice Harrison and M.B. Fox of Los Angeles; H.L. Chadbourne of La Jolla; James Munroe of Arcadia; John F.Kelly of Glendale; Jack Reed of Anaheim; aul R.Vogt of Tarzana; Norman Mendleson of Beverly Hills; Dave Malcolm of San Diego; and Robert Wernick of San Francisco. ake Breakfast Scout-Kiwanis Goal on the platters at 7:30 a.m. and the last stack is expected to disappear some 150 minutes later. Site of this great pancake massacre will be the Anaheim YMCA, 121 S. Citron St. Advanced ticket sales are in the hands of the Anaheim Kiwanis, which has lined up ten ten-member teams. Members of the lowest ranking teams will wear chef's hats and assist the Scouts at the breakfast. The day before the event, Scouts will sell tickets at all Anaheim banks and savings and loan association offices. Proceeds from the event will go to four major Kiwanis youth activities: Boy Scouts, Explorer Scouts, the Joplin Boys Ranch, and a foreign exchange student program. Part of the funds from last year's breakfast went to buy equipment for Explorer Post 74, which has distinguished itself in numerous ways in recent months: serving hot meals at the Baldwin Hills Dam disaster, assisting a mountain rescue, aiding in the search for many lost children, and winning a Youth Service Award on the George Putnam television news show.
