Getting Up Steam
The Anaheim Memorial Hospital Guild continues to put into effect its plans for the coming "Hi-Fever Follies." The Follies is a two day show of local amateur talent to be held May 1st and 2nd in the Anaheim Union High School Auditorium. Any interested talent please call Mrs. Richard Hasbrouck, Prospect 6-0155.
Mrs. George Fowler, advertising chairman for the Follies, announced that March 9 would be "Advertising Day." During this day Anaheim Memorial Hospital Guild members, all wearing white gloves, will visit the local merchants. The purpose for these visits will be with hopes the various businesses will purchase advertisements in the souvenir program for the "Hi-Fever Follies."
The Follies is a community effort which it is hoped the local merchants will want to participate. All proceeds from this endeavor will be put aside for the Anaheim Memorial Hospital Expansion program. This program will increase the hospital size from its present 71 beds to a proposed 350.
The Guild members will converge on the community at 9:30 a.m., March 9, and continue throughout the day.
Those members assisting Mrs. Fowler are: the Mmes. Winslow Adams, Eugene Andreotti, Conner Bachman, Homer Bartles, Ray Birmley, and Leonard Bouas.
Also the Mmes. Robert Boyles, Albert Burton, Robert Fischle, ing "Hi-Fever Follies." The Follies will be presented the 1st and 2nd of May in the Anaheim Union High School Auditorium. A representative of the Jerome Cargill Production Company of New York, Mr. Cal Swanson, was in attendance. The Cargill Company will be supplying the director and the costumes for the Follies.
Mrs. David Melville, chairman for the Follies, announced the advertising will be handled by Mrs. George Fowler, Patrons and patronesses will be greeted by Mrs. C. B. Miller. Ticket arrangements will be made through Mrs. Richard Husmann. Talent will be arranged by Mrs. Arsen Ohanian and Mrs. Richard Hasbrouck. Other chairmen assisting are: Mrs. Edward Kenz, secretary and cast party; Mrs. Ralph Osborn, costumes; Mrs. Clifford Pierce, finance; Mrs. Cecil Lewis, make-up; and Mrs. Robert Ryan, publicity. The Junior Guild members, headed by Miss Marilyn Palm, will be ushers.

The regular monthly meeting of the Philatelic society will be held in the California Federal-Anaheim Community Room, 600 North Euclid Ave. at 8 p.m. Friday, March 13. There will be a stamp auction and trading period.

The Anaheim Art Association has its first major juried show on exhibition in the multi-purpose room of the Public Library, 500 W. Broadway, March 4th through the 30th. Paintings and winners are in both traditional and contemporary categories. Judges were Marjory Adams, Laguna Beach artist, John La Londe from San Clemente and Nels Nelson of Garden Grove.
With "No Time for Sergeants," starring Jerry Van Dyke, closing a highly-successful two week run Sunday night, Melodyland Theatre personnel are bracing themselves for the arrival on March 28 of exuberant Jimmy Durante and his fast-moving "Jimmy Durante Show". Tickets for the show are now on sale at the theatre box office and all Southern California agencies. The public is advised to get them now; they're going very fast!
Nathan Gould Slated For ORT Rally
Nathan Gould, national executive director of Women's American Organization for Rehabilitation through Training (ORT), will deliver the keynote address at the ORT NIGHT rally on March 11 in the social hall of Temple Beth Emet, 1770 Cerritos Ave., Anaheim.
Chairman Mrs. Joseph Stein said that the public is invited to the 8 p.m. affair which culminates the year's activities of the four Orange County chapters of ORT (Anaheim, Fullerton, La Mirada and Santa Ana chapters). Admission is free, and refreshments will be served following the program.
Mrs. Leon Kraus, president of the Anaheim chapter, said that ORT, which operates over 600 vocational installations in 22 countries, "is performing a vital service not only to each individual student it trains and to each nation in which it operates but to the welfare and progress of the entire free world.
Vocational education has come to be recognized as one of the foremost needs in every nation and ORT's 84-year old program is helping to train tens of thousands of skilled workers each year. Governments the world over," she said, "not only laud our efforts but help support our schools in their countries because they realize what a vital part in their own educational efforts these installations play."
Mrs. Kraus said that the Orange County observance will coincide with similar observations by the more than 450 members of the Anaheim Association.

Mrs. Russell Townsend and Ralph Hite were presented honorary life memberships by the Benjamin Franklin Parent Teacher Association.
Mr. Harley Hesse surprised Mrs. Townsend with her presentation by listing the many activities and services given by the recipient. She has served on the PTA Board for the past seven years and has been a Girl Scout leader for the same group of girls for four years.
Ralph Hite, custodian at Franklin, was presented his HLM by Mrs. Marie Genner, honorary life membership chairman and school secretary, by explaining that many times his duties were secondary to a child's need for some help or lending a hand to some parent on a PTA project. Then making up for his duties twice fold. Hite is also active in his church and Sunday school working with the youth groups.
Past presidents and honorary women in Spanish and Miss Haessig's class gave a demonstration of square dancing as the early settlers enjoyed their leisure hours.
Hostesses for the evening were the first grade room mothers Mrs. Forrest Drake, Mrs. Don Organ and Mrs. B. J. Hulley, chairmen.

Anthony Lipsky directed the regular Thursday night duplicate bridge game at Elks Lodge, Anaheim, sponsored by Young Ladies Institute, No. 109.
North-South winners were Bob Lusk and Lila Cox, first; Bill Handy and Larry Wheeler, second; Mr. and Mrs. F. McLelland, third; Tom Tatham and Leonard Beck, fourth.
East-West winners were George Fait and Dr. James Colvin, first; Mrs. Robert Nolan and Jeanie Diedrich, second; Keith Rumph and Ben McLeod, third; Mrs. F. M. Tillou and Mrs. D. W. Grubb, fourth.
The report from the nominating committee was given during the business portion of the meeting presided over by Mrs. James C. Richards, president.
Nominated as candidates for the 1964-65 term were the Mmes. Jerome Schinhofen, president; Harry Risher, first vice president; Kenneth Keesee, second vice president; Tom Bouslog, secretary; Gene Ledford, treasurer; John Jaggers, auditor; and Paul Dallas, historian.
Nominating committee members were the Mmes. Robert Graham, Harry Risher, Gene Ledfor, Bill Trimble and Francis Bello-Bridick, principal.
The fourth grade classes closed the program by presenting demonstrations from their studies of early California. Miss Fleckinstein's room gave two choral readings, Mrs. Bauer's class gave a play and sang

SEALED PROPOSALS will be accepted by the Public Works Division of Highways at the office of Engineer, Room 406, Division of Highways Building Spring Street, Los Angeles, California, until 10:00 on March 17, 1964 at which time and place they will open and read, for performing work as follows:
Orange County, in Anaheim, on Lincoln Avenue chester Drive (VII-Ora-178-Ana), a median open turn channelization to be constructed and surfaced concrete on aggregate base.
Plans and specifications, and forms of proposal contract may be obtained at the above address.
No bid will be accepted unless it is made on a furnished by the District Engineer and made in accordance with the provisions set forth in Section 2 "Proposal Requisition Conditions," of the Standard Specifications.
The Department of Public Works reserves the right any or all bids.
The quantities listed in the State Highway Enforcement hereinafter stated, are approximate only, being based on the comparison of bids, and the Department Workhouse express agreement or by implication, agreeing total amount of work will correspond therewith, but right to increase or decrease the amount of any class of the work, or to omit portions of the work, as necessary or advisable by the Engineer.
Bids are required for the entire work description.

A sultry Anaheim resident will soon play a seductive femme fatale in "The Big Knife". Miss Elizabeth Corrales, 515 E. Anna Drive, will be an adulterous wife in this tragic story of a Hollywood matinee idol.
A native of Iowa, Miss Corrales has been a California resident since 1950. She has a drama degree from UCLA, and counts summer stock amongst her theatrical memories.
At present she works at a Lockheed field office in Anaheim. She goes to Orange State College at nights, and is a senior in Biological Sciences.
She can be seen at the Stage 5 Theatre, 5th & Flower, Santa Ana. Produced by the Orange Theatre Guild, "The Big Knife" will run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (March 6-8, 13-15). Admission will be $1.50 and reservations can be made by calling 778-5446. The curtain will rise at 8:30 p.m.
