Johnson, Orange State College publicist, said he will concentrate on the 75 per cent of the electorate who are apart from the extremists on either right or left. Liberal and moderate Democrats and moderate Republicans "can feel comfortable in voting for me," Johnson said. If elected, Johnson said, he will press for legislation to establish a rapid transit system for Orange County, and will fight to remove the state college system from its dependence on the State Department of Finance. And if the initiative to repeal the Rumford Act is successful, said Johnson, he will work to restore the act. Terming himself a "lifelong liberal," Johnson said it was through his decision that the Black Muslims were able to distribute their literature at Orange State. It was the only county college that allowed Muslim students on campus.
