With The PTA
An imaginary tour of the new Anaheim Public Library was presented to the Fremont PTA, in lieu of an actual tour which was cancelled because the building was not completed at that time.
Conducting the group on the mythical jaunt was Miss Phyllis Irshay, assistant library director, who was introduced by program director Mrs. Paul Bruce.
Miss Urshay described the color scheme being used throughout the library; bright and soft tones enhanced, by much wood panelling. The desert tones are being used to coincide with the largeness of the building.
Just inside the Broadway Avenue main entrance, and to the left is the "Childrens' Room", with a teen-age level corner for study reference work.
All books from all age and grade levels will be checked out at the main circulation desk just inside the door and foyer. The foyer will have public phone and public lockers for use of visitors.
For adults there is a "Popular Reading Room" with mysteries, westerns and science fiction works. Also there is a reading room with newspapers and magazines. Non-fiction and reference material is also available. Two desks are located in a central area for "Readers Service" and "Reference Services".
Located upstairs are the main offices of the staff and a large room for stacked storage of old magazines and reference materials. Also on the second floor are the local history room. It is hoped someday this room will tell the history of Anaheim.
The basement level is reached by elevator. In the multi-purpose room meetings can be held in any one of three small rooms, or, by clever use of partitioning, these rooms become one large hall to hold groups of up to 300. Yet to be completed is the shelter part of the building.
In the parking lot adjacent to the library are stalls which will accommodate 130 autos, so problems with parking should be non-existant, according to Miss Urshay.
The imaginary trip was concluded on this note, and after a short business meeting the meeting was adjourned by Mrs. Stanley Smith.
Hostesses for the evening were from Thomas Jefferson School, Mrs. E. R. Abbott, chairman.
Honorary Life Membership awarded former Tustinite.
A surprise honorary life membership has been awarded to resident Mrs. P. William Hoeckel by the Fourth District PTA.
As a member of the Anaheim Union PTA Council Briscoe served as record chairman for two years. In addition to that post she belonged to the Walt Disney PTA where she held the position of chaplain, hospitality chairman, historian, publicity and publicity treasurer, and first vice-president Mrs. P. William Hoeckel by the Fourth District PTA.
