Two Gridders On All-American Team Two Orange County Junior College football players have been tabbed to first team honors on the J.C. Grid-Wire, 1963 team with two others named to second team offense and another seven receiving honorable mention. Named to first team defense was Steve Joyner, a 205 pound end for Fullerton Junior College and Ron Paterno, 204 pound back from Orange Coast. Named to second team offense was Greg Wojcik, the 229 pound center for the OCC Pirates and 195 pound back Bob Haynes, also from the Pirates. Honorable mentions went to tackles Gary Magner, Orange Coast, and Ron Ogle, Fullerton. Guards Bill Eperson, OCC, and Don Findley, also of OCC, Marv Bain, Santa Ana College's only man listed, received honorable mention as Linebacker and Joe Scott of OCC received mention as a defensive back. Halfback Mike Hunter of OCC made honorable mention halfback. Orange Coast, the No. 2 ranked team in the nation this season, had eight men named to one of the three squads. They had an undefeated season in the Eastern Conference and represented the west coast last weekend in the Jr. Rose Bowl at Pasadena. Fullerton finished sixth out of ten teams in EC action and Santa Ana in seventh. CRYSTAL BALL BY DOUGLAS HUFF A much needed change has been made in the make-up of next year's Sunset League—a short but sweet and concentrated five game season involving six teams instead of eight, beginning Oct. 22. The schedule, which was adopted by the new circuit at their first meetings, starts things out right—with a bang. Co-champions this year, Santa Ana and Westminster, will open fire at the Santa Ana Bowl. Santa Ana Valley, stepping into the AAAA division for the first time, tackles Western at La Palma Stadium and Anaheim, third of the league tri-champions, travels to Huntington Beach on opening night. Exhibition games before the play is for "keeps" and gives the coaches and boys valuable weeks to work out plays and get coordinated. Eastern Conference officials should take note of this too. This year the EC had ten teams and ten games, none of them practice. Consequently many teams got off to a poor start, notably Fullerton and Santa Ana and didn't find themselves until the fifth game (in FJC's case). The rumor-mill has it though that the EC has realized the error of its size and hopes to drop Southwestern and Grossmont. These teams were put in a couple of years ago as there... Nov. 13 — Anaheim at Westminster; Valley at Huntington Beach; Western at Santa Ana. Nov. 20 — Valley at Santa Ana; Anaheim at Western; Westminster at Huntington Beach. The rumor-mill has it though that the EC has realized the error of its size and hopes to drop Southwestern and Grossmont. These teams were put in a couple of years ago as there wasn't any other league that could or would accommodate them. Elsewhere around the sports beat we find that Loara is looking for two teams to play in basketball, Jan. 14, 1964 and Feb. 14. Orange League's Foothill high is looking for a football game on Oct. 16, 1964. They were unable to field a team this year but are in competition in other OL sports.
