4—The Anaheim Gazette Thursday, November 31, 1963 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Anaheim Elks Start Youth Leader Search Kenneth Lee, Exalted Ruler of Anaheim Elks Lodge No. 1345 today announced the opening of the Elks' annual search for the nation's most talented youth leaders. Lee said that the Anaheim Lodge will be among the 2,000 Elks lodges across the country participating in the 14th annual Elks National Youth Leadership Contest. The purpose of the contest is to recognize and honor those boys and girls whose initiative, individualism, diligence and accomplishments in school activities, youth organizations, church and community affairs have caused their associates to look to them for leadership. Lee said that besides their leadership records, entries in the Contest would be judged on Americanism and citizenship, appreciation, preseverance, resourcefulness and sense of honor. Requirements The contest is open to boys and girls under 19 years of age, who will compete in separate divisions in locally, state wide and nationally. Cash awards made to local contest winners will be first place boy and girl, $30.00; second place boy and girl, $25.00. Awards to state contest winners are: first place boy and girl, $200.00 U. S. Savings Bond; second place, $100.00 Bond; third place, $50.00 Bond. boys and girls, are: first place, a $1,000 U. S. Savings Bond; second place, $500 Bond; and third place, $300 Bond. First place winners in the national contest will appear before the Elks National Convention in New York next July to receive their awards, according to Melville J. Junion, Chairmen of the Order's Youth Activities Committee, which sponsors the Contest. The Committee Chairman for the local contest will be Bill Rule, Contest entry forms and further information may be obtained from Earl C. Hobbs, 423 North Los Angeles St. Anaheim. The deadline for entries is December 1, 1963. College Singers Concert On Nov. The Chapman College Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers will be presented in a free Choral Concert on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 4:30 p.m., at First Christian Church, 1130 E. Walnut. Both choral groups are under the direction of William D. Hall, instructor in music who joined the Chapman faculty this September. Other works to be performed by the Madrigal Singers will include "Hunter's Song" and "Good Night" by Schumann. "She Walks in Beauty" by Daria Foltz, "Ain't Got Time to Die" by Hall Johnson, and "I Know Where I'm Goin'" arranged by Lehman Engel. The first film to be shown will be "Ethiopia," Part I, on Nov. 19, and Part II on Nov. 26. The films are a study of the only country on the continent of emerging Africa which never suffered from colonization and its attempts to modernize without the push of revolution. Ethiopia's Emperor, Haile Selassie, is interviewed as are members of the Peace Corps working in Ethiopia. On Dec. 3, the film, "Czechoslovakia: From Munich to Moscow," will be shown. It is the story of a little republic that was twice sacrificed to totalitarianism. The fourth film, "Germany: Red Spy Target," will be shown on Dec. 17. West Germany is said to contain the highest concentration of spies in the world—and the film tries to show why. The films will be shown in Room A-1 at 11 a.m. The public is invited. Program co-chairmen Dr. Gilbert B. Melese of San Diego and Oscar A. Seawell of Los Angeles said that Dr. Tellers topic will be "Nuclear Energy and Space Exploration". The address will be given in the Valencia Ballroom at 9 p.m. during a joint meeting of the Los Angeles and San Diego sections of the American Nuclear Society. Dr. Teller, who studied at the Universities of Munich and Leipzig, also worked abroad at the Universities of Copenhagen, Gottinger and London. In 1935, he became Professor of Physics at George Washington University and in 1941 attained this same capacity at Columbia University. Following work with the Manhattan Engineering District at the University of Chicago, and the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory — he returned to Columbia University as Professor of Physics. In 1952, he became consultant at the Livermore Branch Radiation Labratory of the University of California. He continued at the Livermore facility as Professor of Physics, Associate Director and ultimately as Director of the unit.
