M. Libby, Jr., manager of Security First National Bank's West Anaheim branch, reported today. The surge in business activity pushed the bank's business index to 136.1 (preliminary), 2.1 points above September's reading of 134. The year's highest month-to-month change occurred during the April-to-May period, when the index chart rose 2.9 points. In maintaining its record-breaking pace, the Southland's business activity currently is running nearly 10 per cent ahead of last year's level. Pacing the month's upswing was construction activity which had an estimated dollar volume of $340,000,000. The figure — fourth highest reported in 1963 thus far — was well above the $286,300,000 reported for October, 1962, and approximately $27,100,000 over September.
