Remmel, executive secretary of the Central Labor Council of Orange County, said that COPE "must redouble its efforts to protect the working man's rights against the big money campaigns planned by the American Medical Association, National Association of Manufacturers and the Birch - wing organizations which seek a nation of the very rich and the very poor." 70,000 In County Remmel represented Orange County at the recent national COPE conference in Washington, D.C. "We were one of the 22 key areas especially invited to the conference," said Remmel, "and much of the discussion was on Orange County." More than 70,000 union members reside in Orange County and are affiliated with the Central Labor Council and COPE. "Making certain our members are registered, making certain they vote and making certain those votes are counted is the one way we can compete with the ultra-right's financial campaigns," Remmel noted. Seeks Lease Sammy Lewis, co-producer with Danny Dare of the highly successful 2300 seat Melodyland Theatre in Anaheim, has presented a formal bid for the leasing of the Greek Theatre in Griffith Park, starting in 1965. Melodyland Theatre, which is heading for over a $2 million gross in its first year of operation, will chalk up the most impressive record of any theatre of its type in the United States, Lewis said. The Greek Theatre was never before open for competitive bidding. Officials of Los Angeles have asked for competitive offers. Five other organizations have submitted offers. "Buon giorno, stenti." And, as some may recall, a few things about this kind of truck made driving an experience. (For instance, the top speed was barely more than twenty miles per hour.) But, despite all shortcomings, driving in those days was relatively safe because of low speeds and the lack of traffic. With today's high speeds and crowded streets and highways, however, safety is a bigger problem. That's why all telephone drivers attend "Defensive Driving" schools, learning to stop accidents before they happen. Calling someone whose number you're not quite sure of? Why not double-check it and jot it down before you dial? Could well save you from making a dialing mistake and save the person answering from unnecessary inconvenience. One item that many people find useful is the Bell Chime. Here a service representative shows a customer how to set it for a pleasant chime, a loud bell or the familiar telephone ring. It's a new kind of telephone bell designed to fit any household situation. If you'd like to learn more about it, call our Business Office.
