2—The Anaheim Gazette Thursday, October 3, 1962 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Rezoning.. (Continued from Page 1) the main line of the A.T. & S.F.R.R. over which an average of 22 trains pass each day. It is within less than a quarter of a mile of one operating spur track and two planned spur tracks to serve industrial properties in the city of Placentia. The property is surrounded on three sides by a major, a primary and a secondary highway which indicates the anticipation of tremendous traffic volume even with existing zoning. Defends Action A look on a map of the area though indicates that the City of Placentia's industrial area is not very large and most of Placentia's area in question is county territory which may incorporate, one city councilman said recently. He added that the area rezoned was not actually M-1, but R-A. Anaheim Mayor Rector L. Coons, in sternly defending the Council's decision to go against the proposed General Plan and overrule the Planning Commission to grant the apartment zoning in the industrial area. "Unique" Coons told the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors that the specific property at Dowling, Orangethrope and Placentia-Yorba Road was unique in its physical circumstances and deserved the usual vote. The possibility of it developing as M-1 light industrial was remote, Coons said. "We tried to look at it realistically," he said, adding that the councilmen inspected the entire area closely and could find no other piece of property which was in a similar position. "If the property was on the Newest in The News Branch Formed Formation of a Lutheran Brotherhood local branch at Lamb of God Lutheran church, Anaheim, has been announced by Carl F. Granud, president of Lutheran Brotherhood, fraternal insurance society. The senior choir at the church has been constituted as the branch. Officers are Russell Mobraten, president; Dick Nygren, vice president and Marlys Eberhard, secretary - treasurer. The Rev. Fred Dommer is pastor of the church. Lutheran Brotherhood has more than 2,800 local branches from coast to coast, including 222 in California, which conduct fraternal activities on the congregational level. Den Mothers A special Den Mothers Workshop program has been arranged County Council, Boy Scouts of America at the La Palma Youth Cepter, 317 E. School Post Members of the Northern range County Council, Boy Scouts of America in the Anaheim trict are invited to attend the Leader training meetings we have been slated at the F.B.A Baptist Church of Anaheim, iron St., and Broadway, on Oct. 10 and 17 starting at 7:30 p.m. two hours. Slate Judging Judging for Miss Anaheim sponsored by the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce will be Oct. 12 in the Chrysler Building Auditorium, La Palma and Burstur at 7:30 p.m. chamber The possibility of it developing as M-1 light industrial was remote, Coons said. "We tried to look at it realistically," he said, adding that the councilmen inspected the entire area closely and could find no other piece of property which was in a similar position. "If the property was on the south side of the northeast industrial area I would have voted against it," Coons said. One director said that with the breach of the General Plan "anyone on the perimeter can make the same request" and be justified. Needed For Industry It was pointed out that the city in years to come will need the industry to support its expected 250,000 population. But Coons said the decision will have no ill effects on the industrial area or the proposed General Plan. The area rezoned was not actually M-1 but R-A. Never-the-less the board members directed that a representative of the Chamber appear at all public hearings of the city in which the industrial areas are being challenged by rezone requests — to protest violation of the principle of maintaining the industrial zoning. The Chamber several months earlier had stamped its approval on the proposed General Plan including the industrial reserve. Condemnation County Supervisors have ordered County Counsel George Holden to proceed with "friendly condemnation" action to acquire the six-story Tancredi Building now under construction at the southeast corner of 6th and Sycamore Sts. in downtown Santa Ana for $1.1 million to provide additional facilities office space for the crowded civic center for the next 10 years. The purchase price was estimated at $1,165,000 by chief-right-of-way agent Stanley Krause, who told supervisors purchasing the six-story Tancredi Building now under construction at the southeast corner of 6th and Sycamore Sts. in downtown Santa Ana for $1.1 million to provided additional facilities office space for the crowded civic center for the next 10 years. The purchase price was estimated at $1,165,000 by chief-right-of-way agent Stanley Krause, who told supervisors purchasing the building was "most feasible." Pointed out at a directors meeting was the fact that the State Division of Highways will not permit a sign on the Santa Ana Freeway designating the main north-south artery because it would "confuse the motorist journeying to Los Angeles." "Stigma" According to the directors Orange County cities must beef-up their identity or be lost in the mass of "suburbs" around Los Angeles as the Southland grows. Changing the name of Los Angeles Street will remove the "stigma" of Los Angeles from the city and permit the placing of a freeway sign directing traffic to the city, directors said. Treasury Award The Anaheim Post Office won a citation from the Treasurery Department for conducting a successful U.S. Savings Bond campaign recently among its employees. Postmaster Marshall F. McRie received the Citation, together with a letter of congratulations from the regional director of the Post Office Department. More than 75 percent of the Anaheim postal employees are currently purchasing Savings Bonds from payroll deductions, the Postmaster concluded. 80 on Tour Eighty women from the west Anaheim area toured City Hall, Swamp Tiny Tots Class "We're loaded," says Kathy Reagan, director of Anaheim Park and Recreation Department's Tiny Tot program. Anaheim mothers have enrolled 200 tiny tots. "That's 20 more than we planned for in our four classes", Kathy said. There is a waiting list of more than 80 in case of cancellations. Department Director John J. Collier, and Recreation Supertendent Lloyd Trapp, have tried in vain to find additional space and teachers. However, there are now plans to repeat the course after the Holidays. "Parents will be advised as soon as we can make suitable arrangements", Collier promised. Gold Medal Bridgeford Foods Corp. of Anaheim has won four Gold Medals by the Consumers Reaction Council at the California State Fair, Sacramento, which has just ended. The Gold Medal awards were made on the basis of flavor, quality and product excellence. Bridgeford received the coveted Gold Medals for frozen ready to bake bread, cooked sliced ham, sliced smoked bacon and Bridgeford "delicious" bologna.
