The ANAHEIM GAZETTE Woman's Realm With The PTA By Georganna Johnsen Tel. 633-2128 JOHN MARSHALL John Marshall P.T.A. invites all its students, parents, and friends to the annual fair to be held Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school. Mrs. Monica Arter, publicity director, said that after several years absence, the annual affair is back, bigger and better than ever. Of special interest to parents with small children will be a roped-off area especially for pre-school aged youngsters, with games of skill geared to the abilities of the smaller child. Several unusual features will highlight the day. A cake-sale booth will offer beautifully decorated cakes made by women trained in this art. These cakes will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Puppet Show A professional puppet show will be presented by the Long Beach Pixie Puppet Theatre at 2 p.m. and again at 2:30, each performance lasting approximately twenty minutes. This is a sepecial act which has appeared in many poolside luncheon at her home. CARNIVAL The John Marshall Elementary Parent Teachers Association will hold its annual Carnival at the school on Saturday, Sept. 28, starting promptly at 10 a.m. continuing until 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to this affair, geared to interest the entire family. There will be games and prizes carefully planned for the enjoyment of all ages, especially the little ones. New Feature This year a truly fine attraction, added for the children as well as adults, is the Pixie Puppet Theater Group of Long Beach, will perform at 2 and then again at 2:30 p.m. This talented group has entertained on television and in person for many years and are masters at bringing their 'people' to life. 'Cakewalk' One of the more popular events at past John Marshall Carnivals has been the 'cakewalk'. This year the P.T.A. brings you the cakewalk plus a decorated cake auction among many other attractions. District Visit to Members of Lois Rebecca Lodge No. 268, Independent Orchard of Odd Fellows, met Friday, Odd Fellows Temple with Amy Robert, Noble Grand, presides over the business session. Elizabeth E. Price, district duty president of District No. of Santa Ana, paid the local local official visit. She was escorted into the lodge room by her deputy marshal, Charlotte Taylor, assisted by 14 escort girls in whom introduced, extended the Honour of the Rebekah Degree, and corted to the right of the No Grand. Mrs. Price and Mrs. Tilor wore identical blue floral gowns. Also escorted were B. Horn, Officers of the Guard and Lillian Carson, on the Honor Guard, both of the Ladies Audrey Patriarchs Militant of California. Others Honored Others honored were Committee Members of the Rebekah Hall sembly: Charlotte Taylor, Legion gun preparations for the annual carnival to be held Saturday, Oct. 5 at Price School. The theme this year will be Western Jubilee and will feature a Hootenan Round-Up. Regular meetings of the PTA will be held on the third Monday of each month in the source Room at Price School, 7:30 with the exception of the October meeting, which will consist of a tour of the new Anahte Public Library; Price will be first PTA group to tour this building. Admission fee to the Country Fair-type midway will be ten cents, which covers entrance, one game of skill or other attraction, and the puppet show. THOMAS A. EDISON The P.T.A. Board Members were sponsors recently at an informal "Coffee" and orientation program for parents of kindergarten-aged children and their youngsters. A few days prior to the opening of school for the new year, the mothers were introduced to their child's teacher and became acquainted with the school program at the kindergarten level, while being served coffee. Later in the day the children were invited to visit their school room and become familiar with the surroundings and equipment before the actual "First Day of School". Co-arrangers of the event were Mrs. Charles Collier and Mrs. Walter Simmons. Carnival Oct. 5 According to the publicity chairman for the organization, Mrs. K. Critchfield, plans are almost complete for the annual Carnival to be held on the school grounds Oct. 5, from noon until dusk. Theme for this year will be "Spanish Fiesta". Among the new and exciting features scheduled this year are the "Milk Run", a ride for children, the Pinata Bust and Sarape Pocket Surprise. Tacos will be an addition to the menu this year, along with the usual carnival "goodies". Mrs. Jack Hibbard, President of the P.T.A. Board was hostess recently to the new and returning faculty members with a lovely group entertained on television and in person for many years and are masters at bringing their 'people' to life. Tickets will sell for ten cents each, entitling the holder to all the games, booths and cakewalk. Refreshments will be available at minimum prices enabling everyone to really enjoy their day at the Carnival. The parents of the two morning and the two afternoon kindergarten classes were honored at a get-acquainted tea Wednesday afternoon. Earl Dahl, principal of the school staff including Mrs. George introduced members of the school staff ncluding Mrs. George Henry, Curriculum Assistant; Mrs. Ann Goff, School Nurse; Mrs. Gladys Blankmeyer, School Secretary; and the kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Evelyn Avers, and Mrs. Edythe Schwartz. Mrs. Avers and Mrs. Schwartz briefly outlined the kindergarten program for the more than 60 parents present, Mrs. R. E. Rodgers, Jr., PTA president, spoke about the state PTA theme, "Focus on Family, Faith, and Freedom," and announced plans for the coming year which will concentrate on school safety, scout activities and the construction of teachers' aids. Many parents expressed interest in assisting the teachers in the construction of classroom aids when given the opportunity to place their names on a sign-up sheet. Mrs. Rodgers introduced Mrs. Robert Nichols, Room Representative Chairman, and Mrs. James Baker, Hospitality Chairman. Refreshments included coffee and cookies. During the business session a donation was sent to the Grand Lodge for the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Float to be entered in the 1964 Rose Parade a Pasadena. In a communication received from George E. Hannaford, Grand Master, a Special Session of The Grand Lodge and Rebekah Assembly will be held in Hawaii for the members in that state when Grand Officers and members from California and other states will go on a conducted Hawaiian Tour in November. A good Delegation from Orange County is expected to attend. Slate Dinner Reservations for the Roast Beef Dinner to be held Oct. 1 in the Odd Fellow Temple must be in by Sept. 27, Adeline Provine, Vice Grand Announced. A Card Party will to be held at the home of Ora Horn's on Sept. 28. Invitations were also received from Fullerton Rebekah Lodge to a cafeteria dinner on Oct. 2, and Courtesy night and the official visit of Elizabeth Price, District Deputy president, on Oct. 7, from Ruby Rebekah Lodge in Orange. At AAUW Parley Four members of the Anaheim Branch of the American Association of University Women will join more than 500 delegates from the 130 branches of the California State Division of AAUW in Salinas Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27-28 for a workshop in program planning. Attending the meeting with Mrs. C. D. Glassmoyer, Anaheim branch president, will be Mmes. Robert K. Reilly, Robert A. Linn and Fred E. Hamren, all members of the board. Need Juvenile Hall Volunteers Members of Our Lady of the Rosary Institute No. 109 who can volunteer their assistance with the Juvenile Hall project on the third Sunday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., in Santa Ana, are asked to notify Miss Rose Mouch, chairman of the project, at KE 5-4187 or Mrs. William Jolissaint, KE 5-6645. The rehabilitation of young girls at Juvenile Hall is under the supervision of Sister Henrietta, Orange County Welfare Supervisor. Baby Clinic Also needed are volunteers who can help with the "Well-Baby" Clinic which is held on the first and fourth Wednesdays of each month. LIBRARY CLASS A night class in library science, "Book Selections", will be held at the Fullerton Public Library by the University of Southern California this fall. The three-unit course will be taught by Harry M. Rowe, Jr., Fullerton Librarian and instructor at Fullerton College. The classes will meet 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays for 15 weeks. Single Adults Group Seeks New Members Single adults between the ages of 25 and 50 years are cordially invited to visit the Single Business and Professional Adults Club when they meet on Friday evenings in Thomson Hall.
