They may take opposing sides or split into actions while a public issue is being debated, but once the matter is settled they forget their differences and work together. That is what Harold Smith of Smith-Reafsnyder Furniture Co. takes to think, more than likely because he and his associates are inclined to think on a high plane. In a very few years the store will be 100 years old. “We’re fortunate,” says Smith. “Fortunate to carry out big projects without much of a stew. It was wonderful how our public officials in the past put through that joint outfall sewer project, for one example. They were far-sighted. Without that facility we couldn’t have accommodated the vast additional population that came to this county. Smith says downtown re-planning ultimately will be undertak-en and carried out in the same spirit, and observes: “Anaheim is what it is today because the people here worked together, cooperatively. And there seems to have been little self-seeking by our civic and political leaders.” Although he was seated on a luxurious divan while he talked, Smith seemed to forget about his furniture business, shared by his associates, Ray Reasnyder and Ken Bradley, and talk almost entirely about “the first here.” Those “fine people” kin for generations had buying furniture at the Reafsnyder store at 1867 on the present site, est of its kind in Oran­d and complete with a One of the city’s leading establishments today given the original one. Those "fine people" and their kin for generations have been buying furniture at the Smith-Reafsnyder store at 151 N. Los Angeles St. The store was established in 1867 on the present site, the largest of its kind in Orange County, and complete with a mortuary. One of the city's leading funeral establishments today grew out of the original one. Some of the present members of the firm have been part owners since 1924. Reafsnyder's son-in-law, Delos Sommers, sells furniture there. The sturdy old building, housing four floors of rich furnishings, dates back to some time near the date the store was founded. It has been remodeled a number of times. Bradley joined the firm in 1940. The store's line of furniture includes French and Spanish modern and provincial, contemporary and modern. It delivers and services the appliances it sells and provides the service of two decorators for those who buy furniture, rugs and drapery. Orange County's population gain brought thousands of new customers to Smith-Reafsnyder. And we're happy to say we've made many, many new friends," says Bradley.
