Overtime Exemption Loss Face by Some Employers Employers who want to continue claiming "white collar" exemptions from overtime pay for their executive, administrative and professional employees face new weekly salary minimums beginning Sept. 3, says Commerce Clearing House. Under proposed amendments to federal wage-hour regulations, an executive employee would have to draw at least $100 weekly in order to be exempt from overtime-pay requirements. The current scale calls for an $80 minimum at the executive level. Administrative and professional personnel will have to be paid a weekly minimum of $100 and $115, respectively, in order to qualify for the exemption under the proposed changes. Presently, the regulations prescribe $95 minimums. 省级教育局 — James A. Reese, airman apprentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon J. Reese of 2435 Orange Ave., Anaheim, was graduated recently from Asia- ional employees would be created, CCH pointed out. Under a so-called shorter test or certain "higher salaried" employees the weekly pay would rise to $15 0from the present $125 minimum, if exemption is to be retained for them. The proposed changes in salary tests to begin Sept. 3 coincide with the timing of statutory increases in hourly minimum pay to $1.25 from the present $1.15, rate, effective on that date. This increase is required under 1961 amendments for employees who were already covered by the law at that time. The minimum wage for employees covered for the first time by the amendments remains at $1.00 an hour until Sept. 3, 1964, CCH said. GRADUATES — James A. Reese, airman apprentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon J. FINISHES TRAINING — Marine Private Jimmy L. Duncan, son of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Duncan of $21 Dorchester St., completed recruit training June 18 at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Administrative and professional personnel will have to be paid a weekly minimum of $100 and $115, respectively, in order to qualify for the exemption under the proposed changes. Presently, the regulations prescribe $95 minimums for both these classifications. Thus, salary differentials as to executive and administrative employees would be eliminated, while a new $15 differential between administrative and profes- This increase is required under 1981 amendments for employees who were already covered by the law at that time. The minimum wage for employees covered for the first time by the amendments remains at $1.00 an hour until Sept. 3, 1964, CCH said. New separate tests are proposed for executive, administrative and professional employees of retail and service establishments. These employees would be subject to lower salary tests for exemption purposes. The tests would continue in effect until 1965 when such employees come under the rules applying to "white collar" employees, generally. Of course, says CCH, employers already paying at or above the new minimums would have no cause to worry. Except for the higher salary tests or exemption, other requirements dealing with duties, authority, degree of responsibility, and the exercise of discretion and judgment in the performance of a job would remain the same. Regulations do not require employers to pay fixed-level minimum salaries to executive, ad- ployees. The minimums apply-only if employers wish to claim the exemption. Where a "white collar" employee covered by the law does not meet the salary tests, as well as those concerning job duties and responsibilities, he cannot be qualified for exemption. The Federal age-Hour Law applies generally to employees engaged in interstate commerce or in the production of goods for closely related processes or occupations directly involved, the CCH report explained. Charter Offices Installed by Kappa Nu Chapter of Anaheim Heralding the beginning of another "link of friendship" of the Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority, members and guests gathered Saturday evening at the Jolly Roger Inn for dinner. The event marked the initiation ceremonies for the new Anaheim Chapter, Kappa Nu. This charter group became the 190 chapter in the United States and Canada. Friendship is the key word for members of "Sigma Phi" as well as assisting in social welfare work. Sigma Phi Gamma is one of the largest non-academic sororities in the world. The Southern Appalachian Mountain Region of the nation profits greatly from the efforts put forth by this group. They have built a school and helped set up a dental clinic in this area, as well as offering medical scholarships to students, who will return to the area after college and carry on their work. Last year a total of $65,000.00 toward welfare work and 120,000 hours of volunteer hours were tallied by the 3500 members of the Sorority. Attending the affair Saturday was Edith Bocock, life founder of Los Angeles, serving as installing officer assisted by Jean Ekman, Millie Wagner and Marcelle La-Pointe, all from Los Angeles, Colleen King, Christine Roberts and Helen Lagerson, representing provinces, and international officers also attended. Dorothy Stein, of Pasadena conducted the impressive candlelight service. She is past international officer and originated the service. Near Deadline More than 150,000 holders of GI “RS” insurance policies have three months remaining in which to qualify for a special dividend by exchanging for “W” term policies or converting to permanent insurance, Mort Webster, Manager of VA’s Southern California Regional Office, said today. The special dividend, authorized for this purpose, expires on September 13, 1963. After that date, “RS” policyholders may still convert or exchange their policies, but they will no longer be eligible for the dividend payment, Webster commented. Only GI insurance policyholders with “RS” insurance that was issued to Korean Conflict servicemen are concerned in this program, Webster said. On or before September 13, 1963, they must: 1. Exchange the “RS” term policy for a “W” term policy, generally costing about one - third of what they are now paying; or 2. Convert the “RS” policy to a low-cost permanent plan of insurance.
