Hughes Names
Tillman Brown
Tillman L. Brown has been appointed marketing manager, Facilities Engineering and Construction Division, Hughes Aircraft Company ground systems group, C. H. Brubaker, vice president and ground systems group executive, announced. Brown will report to S. H. Swenson, manager, Facilities Engineering and Construction Division.
The FE&C Division provides architect - engineering services, featuring scientific and technical capabilities in planning, engineering, designing and construction management of specialized scientific laboratories and facilities. Hughes architect - engineers, in planning and coordinating the modern facilities required by rapidly expanding scientific building activity, are supported by the technical personnel and laboratory resources of the entire company.
Some of the outstanding projects for which FE&C Division directed the design, engineering and construction are: a satellite relay station for the U.S. Air Force; a facility for research, development, and manufacture of infrared systems; a special facility for testing effects of radiation on military electronic equipment; a super - clean facility for thin film microelectronic application; and a space environment simulator building.
Before his current appointment, Brown was marketing representative for Space Simulation Systems. He joined Hughes in 1960. Previously he was general manager of Custom Control Manufacturing Co., Rosemead, Calif., and manufacturing manager of Hardeman - Jones, Inc., Rosemead.
Brown graduated from Simmons Institute, Los Angeles and Anaheim.
Angels Open Vital Stand
The Los Angeles Angels start their most important home stand of the American League season tonight against the New York Yankees.
With the hectic pennant chase at mid-point, at least seven teams are still in the thick of the fight, including the Angels. The fifth home stand is studded with key games against the Yanks, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers.
The Yankees also play Friday night, July 1 at 8 p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. The Red Sox follow with a Sunday, July 14 doubleheader starting at 1:30 and a single day game Monday at 1:30. The Indians are in

Among other things the following: "I see also an account of a San Bernadino Colony not far from Anaheim, but I think water is scarce in that country. A loud explosion heard about o'clock on last Saturday night was the result of an attempt to blow up a house on First North Street occupied by Chinese. The explive was placed under the house it is supposed by some rii Chinese. A few boards were broken and dishes shattered but one was hurt.
James D. Ott has sold 40 acres of land east of town to Dav Bertsch for $1600.
The Los Angeles Common Council refused to make an appropriation for the celebration of Fourth. They are a nice lot patriots.

30 Years Ago This Week
Wednesday evening at the city park amphitheatre, 151 members of the class of '33, Anaheim Union High School, received their diplomas and passed from the portals of secondary education. The amphitheatre was filled with relatives and friends of the graduates to hear the impressive ceremony, which lasted for two hours.
Twenty-two graduates of St. Boniface Parochial School Sunday afternoon received from the hands of the Rev. P. Browne their diplomas.

Scots to Gather
For Two-Day Fete
Scots of Anaheim have been invited to attend the forthcoming 98th Scottish "Gathering And Games," organized by the Caledonian Club of San Francisco, to be held Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, Santa Rosa, California.
Included in the events will be the Western United States Open Highland Dancing Championships, and piping, drumming and massed band competitions.
