Giant Circus Sets August Arena Dates "Hey Skinny! The big one is coming to town!" That familiar call could only mean one thing and that is Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus is headed for Los Angeles and the air-conditioned Sports Arena. Arrangements were completed today and the dates for the circus appearance here are August 1st through 13th. Performances will be given twice daily and three times on Saturday. This is the earliest date the circus has ever appeared here and will mark one of the shortest runs the circus has made at the Sports Arena. A spokesman for the circus explained that many new arenas and auditoriums are opening in key cities throughout the country and this will result in shorter engagements in most cities in order for the circus to play the major areas where the new facilities are now available to them. Four new super spectacles plus new headline stars featured in stars featured in the center ring will make their debut when the circus appears here in Los Angeles. But these are no dream world deposits — Helping two of the bank's regular customer, Mfs. Becky Taylor, left, a Tryon member are among the facilities just EVERYTHING BUT JESSE JAMES Housewife, Mother Helps Those who think banking is a dull profession would have a hard time convincing Mrs. Jane Young of Westminster. But then, Mrs. Young works in a truly unique bank in a rare kind of world. Her bank is identical in every detail to those of the "Gay 90's" era. Standard equipment includes roll top desks, quill pens, and two shiny spittoons. She and her five co-workers wear costumes that would have been the height of fashion in the age of bicycles built for two, barbershop quartets, and the nickel beer. Customers range from such notables as Fred MacMurray and Ester Williams to Mickey Mouse and the Three Little Pigs. Less famous visitors are from every corner of the world imaginable, speak dozens of languages, and often pull money from their wallets that very few Americans would recognize. What's more, her bank is open Sundays and holidays but closes on Mondays and Tuesdays in the wintertime. Mrs. Young happens to spend her working hours in a Bank of America branch which is a part of Disneyland. She was recently promoted and is assistant to Merie Wetzbarger officer in charge of the bank which stands on the Magic Kingdom's Main Street. "It's a real fun job," says the tall, attractive brunette, her green eyes sparkling. Mrs. Young fell in love with Disneyland the first time she passed through its gates shortly after opened eight years ago but never envisioned herself a part of it until two years later. During one of her frequent visits to the park her mother jokingly told her, "You enjoy this place so much, you ought to work here. Although she was then employed at the Bank of America's Belmont Shore branch in Long Beach, she applied for a transfer and six months later was a fixture on Main Street. This week's schedule calls for sign-ups for the ten catagories that will appeal to both young and old alike. Primary aim of the program is to "offer many opportunities for children six years and older, including paper crafts, nature crafts, sandpainting and string craft." The Advanced Crafts are available for children 10 years and older. These classes require more skill in the use of varied tools and equipment. Other classes for youngsters will be tap and ballet, baton for beginners, intermediate baton, Andy and Annie Anaheim sports be between 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Spencer House. Along with the social program, the teen club will also go on a trip to Mt. Baldy July 10, 18, 24, hold a picnic at Irvine Park, July 31; and beach parties have been scheduled for August 7, 14, 21. There will also be a trip to either a Dodger or Angel basball game. Since the teen club is a part of the year... Vacation-bound youngsters invaded the cities 21 playgrounds and three pools this week to kick off the Anaheim Park and Recreation Department's exciting new program. This week's schedule calls for sign-ups for the ten categories that will appeal to both young and old alike. Primary aim of the program is to "offer many opportunities for citizens of all ages to enjoy wholesome leisure time activities." This year's program includes the following: neighborhood playgrounds, sports program for boys, sports program for girls, teen clubs, swimming lessons for all ages; recreation swimming, instrumental music, choral, drama and modern dance. Already scheduled on the city-wide Special Events calendar is the All-city Track Meet and Marathon, slated for July 24 and the Penny Carnival for August 16. Both events will be held at La Palma Park. Meanwhile, each Friday, a special playground theme will be organized at each playground. Arts and crafts, nature, music, drama, games, story telling and excursions are correlated with the weekly theme and special events. This year's themes will be "Get Acquainted," June 24-28; "On Wheels," July 1 - 5; "Monster Space," July 8 - 12; "Cowboys Indians," July 15 - 19; "Pirate Splash," July 22 - 26; "Hobo," July 29 - August 2; "Talent," August 5 - 9; "Carnival," August 12 - 18; and "Last Roundup Awards," August 18 - 23. The excursion list, which is organized weekly for all children eight years and older, includes Corriganville, Cabrillo Beach, Mt. Baldy, San Diego Zoo, San Juan Capistrano and Marineland. There will be simple crafts offered for children six years and older, including paper crafts, nature crafts, sandpainting and string craft. The Advanced Crafts are available for children 10 years and older. These classes require more skill in the use of varied tools and equipment. Other classes for youngsters will be tap and ballet, baton for beginners, intermediate baton, Andy and Annie Anaheim sports leagues and aquatics. Also on the recreation level will be tennis, table tennis, volleyball, physical fitness, archery, rifle and even a dog training class. An extended Cultural Arts Program has been planned this summer to give each youngster the opportunity to participate in an enriching experience. Classes will be offered in dance, drama, choral and instrumental music. There will also be a beginning painting class for children and adults, classes in silver jewelry making for adults, junior and senior high students. One of the highlights of the summer program is the department's "Under the Stars" series at the Greek Theatre. These musical programs are being presented for the fifth consecutive year and bring an excellent cross-section of musical groups from the area. The entertainment is free to the entire family. Shows are presented at Pearson Park's Greek Theatre and curtain time is 8:00 p.m. This year's program will have the Long Beach Navy Band, July 12; Riverside Municipal Band, July 19; Angiola Sarotro's Dance Theatre from Corona del Mar, July 28; Ansell Hill Dance Band, August 2; Fullerton Barbershoppers, August 9; and the Pomona Band, August 16. The summer social activities schedule for the teen clubs will be between 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Spencer House. Along with the social program, the teen club will also go on a trip to Mt. Baldy July 10, 18, 24, hold a picnic at Irvine Park, July 31; and beach parties have been scheduled for August 7, 14, 21. There will also be a trip to either a Dodger or Angel baseball game. Since the teen club is a part of the year-round program, their activities though fewer, will continue during the summer months. This joint school and city program, celebrating its 14th year in existence, is sponsored by the Anaheim Elementary School District, Anaheim Union High School District, the Magnolia School District and the City of Anaheim. Each participates financially and provides its facilities for the program. HER HELPS RUN BANK Young happens to spend kinking hours in a Bank of a branch which is a part of Yorkland. It recently promoted and sent an offer to Merle Wetzbarger, in charge of the bank, stands on the Magic Kingmain Street. A real fun job," says the interactive brunette, her grey markling. Young fell in love with Disc- the first time she passed its gates shortly after it eight years ago but never ended herself a part of it unyears later. One of her frequent visits park her mother joking her, "You enjoy this place you ought to work here." In she was then employed bank of America's Belmont branch in Long Beach, she for a transfer and six later was a fixture on street. Nothing I like best about working here is the friendly small town atmosphere. Everybody from the pop corn vendors to the top executives are on a first name basis by request of Mr. Disney... I mean Walt." Her first meeting with Disney was pleasant if unexpected. "It was near closing time on a very busy Labor Day my first year here. I was counting a stack of silver dollars when I looked up and there he was. After the initial shock had passed, it turned out to be a thrilling experience. Walt was very friendly and signed autographs for all of us." No one can deny that Mrs. Young serves the most intriguing group of customers anywhere. It's not unusual to see a movie star making a withdrawal at her window and when Mickey Mouse waddles up to her counter, steps on a stool, and hands her his pay check for deposit, she doesn't phone the nearest psychiatrist. She knows it's just one of Walt Disney's famous characters brought to life in Disneyland. SUMMER SPORT SEASON Been 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, spencer House.
