BOY'S DREAM FACING SALE 'DOWN THE RIVER'—Chief of Police Mark Stephenson looks over some of the more than 40 bicycles that will go on the auction block June 4 when the police department gets rid of unclaimed property that has been stored through the lice recovery. Chief Stephenson w the 10 a.m. sale.
Police Department to Auction Long List of Unclaimed Items
More than two-score bicycles, lawn equipment, power tools, even some rifles are among the assorted unclaimed items to be auctioned off by the Police Department on June 4.
Chief Mark Stephenson, who will act as the auctioneer at the 10 a.m. sale at the police station, declares there are many fine items to go on the auction block as well as some that need a lot of "rust remover."
"It is fantastic," Stephenson said, "that property owners will not take the trouble to reclaim these recovered items. We make a fair recovery of items through the year, and, in addition, pick up a number of items that are abandoned by thieves. We have no way of knowing ownership of the latter and must depend on the deprived owners to come down and report their losses.
"The simple task of reporting a loss, however, seems to be too much for at least as many people as we have unclaimed items."
The annual auction is held to relieve the storage problems of the police department.
This is a good chance to have a two-bike garage at minimum cost.

After discussing the matter with U.S. Public Health Service officials and corresponding with various California agencies, the Senior California Senator urged that steps be taken as soon as possible to set up on the Pacific Coast an eighth laboratory under authority of the Water Pollution Control Act which Congress passed in 1961.
The Assistant Senate Republican Leader noted there is an "undeniable need" for intensive research over a broad area, including "salt water intrusion, sewage reclamation, underground basin recharging, interbasin diversion, evaporation losses, new threats of contamination, agricultural practices, and quality improvement."

As a feature of a tour introducing them to Southland living, some 170 international realtor delegates to the 14th Congress of the International Real Estate Federation, inspected Sherwood Estates - Anaheim, George D. Buccola's luxury residential development on Lincoln near Rio Vista, Anaheim, and were cocktail guests there.
The realtors, here from France, Italy, Germany and other European countries, saw the Sherwood Estates, as an example of a high-quality, family-planned development.
They also visited Disneyland and had dinner at Knott's Berry Farm.

The drive netted a total of $383,000 in the last campaign which was headed by Shanks.
City Begins Weed Sprays
An effective weed deterrent is abroad in the land. But it only operates in neglected areas and it doesn't distinguish between patches of blue grass and the weed. Otherwise, it does answer the public desire for nuisance control.
The "killer" is a section of the city government following up the posted signs which have warned property owners to get rid of weeds. Where the signs have been ignored the city is now spraying on their own "done" that properly.

A second meeting was held at the Fremont Junior High School auditorium which permitted the full audience to be with in the room.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 7 and is expected to be held in the evening in the auditorium of the Anaheim High School.
The city's position is that wages and salaries for the various assignments should conform to the prevailing rates in business and industry.A "statistical" approach to the rates is claimed by Heissner to show justification for the recommendations.
An examination of the recommended schedule shows pay increases ranging from 2.5 to 10 per cent for 824 of the 920 employees of the city.
