1943 Anaheim Colonists Reunion
Graduates of Anaheim Union High School of 1943 are planning a 20th anniversary celebration in Anaheim on July 13. The sponsoring members of the class have slated a social hour, dinner and a program of entertainment and dancing for the evening at the Gourmet Restaurant in the Disneyland Hotel.
The reunion committee has engaged the Keith Williams Orchestra, they report.
Mrs. Jaunita (Bauman) McCulloch, 916 South Claudina St., in Anaheim is chairman for the event. She has requested all class members who have not received invitations to contact her by mail or telephone PR 4-9373. Advice notice of the affair has been needed to all whose present address known, Mrs. McCulloch said.
Charity Ball Set In Golden Decor
Catholic Youths Seek Counselors
The Catholic Youth Organization is recruiting men and women counselors for its summer day camp program at Irvine Park, it was announced by Miss Helen Yost, field director.
Day camp season of four weeks will begin on July 8. Training sessions for counselors will star June 19.
Especially needed are men counselors — seminarians, teachers, college students, Miss Yost said, but positions also are available for women counselors.
The camp district covers all of Orange County except Los Alamitos, Buena Park and Newport Beach and south.

The sixth annual Charity Ball Saturday of the Anaheim Assistance League will be marked by Victorian elegance in the Empire Room decorations and table centerpieces at the Newporter Inn site.
Mrs. Jack Flammer, chairman for decorations, and Mrs. William T. Anderson, have devoted their attention to providing the air of golden tradition becoming the Victorian flair and the decor of the Empire Room.
The Assistance League is sponsoring the annual social event for support of their many philanthropic activities.
Mrs. Robert Loomis is general chairman for the ball which will open with a social hour at 7 p.m. The reception committee will be headed by Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Rusch. Mrs. Rusch is League president. Others receiving will be Mr. and Mrs. Foster Warwick and Mr. and Mrs. Loomis.
Mrs. L. M. Dunn, have been sponsored for invitations and services.
Proceeds from the ball benefit a number of activities ported by the League, include the Villa Marie Home for Children the purchase and maintenance hospital equipment for loan needy patients at home, provide Thrift Shop, give emergency aid to needy families, provide schools and camperships to children sponsor Little League and Relation Summer baseball teams boys, and to sponsor a YMCA gate to Youth and Government Conference in Sacramento.
Others include transportation the blind to Braille Club, pro films for use at Fairview Hospital, and Juvenile Hall, vide Community Concert tie to high school students and give financial aid to terminal cases.
The Assistance League of Anaheim received the Disneyland Annual Community Service Award for two years in a row, in receipt of multiple philanthropic acts.

Peek Awards
To be May 28
Third annual winners of the Peek Family Scholarships will be selected May 8.
Three Orange County junior college graduates who plan careers in public administration, specifically in local, county, or state government, will receive $500 each, according to Lon E. Peek, Midway City, who sponsors the event.
Faculty committees from Fullerton, Santa Ana and Orange Coast colleges will pick two candidates from each school who will appear before the Peek Scholarship Advisory Board for personal interviews.
The selection board consists of Harry Buffum, Santa Ana; Walter Knott, Buena Park; H. Louis Lake, Garden Grove; Charles A. Pearson, Anaheim, and Willis H. Warner, Huntington Beach.
Objective of the Peek Scholarships is to "strengthen and preserve American democracy by encouraging intelligent, educated youth to seek careers in government," according to Peek.
Scholarship winners last year were Bruce Michael Kahl, Albany, Fullerton Junior College;
Bloomfield) Cook; Bonnie Juanita (Bauman) McCullee) Nichols; Mary Ann and Gay Van Berckelaer.

Soroptimists Hear School Talk Winner
In honor of Public Schools Week, April 22-26, Barbara Handsel, a Fifth Grade Student of the Thomas A. Edison Elementary School, Anaheim, give the speech that won her first place in the Modern Woodmen of America Contest for the members of the Soroptimist Club of Anaheim at their regular meeting. Tuesday, at the Disneyland Hotel. Her speech on The Great Ideals of America was judged best of those given by the eight finalists selected from Anaheim Elementary Schools.
Gloria Light, a graduate from Anaheim High School in June, 1962 will be introduced to the club. She will be presented with this year Nurse Scholarship at the Awards Dinner in May.
Mixed Pairs Event Slated for Thursday
Y.L.I. mixed pairs championship will be held Thursday evening April 25, 8 p.m., at the Elks Lodge 423 North Los Angeles Street, Anaheim. Trophies will be awarded to the overall winners. Anyone needing a partner for this event please call director Tony Lipsky at 530-3319.

Heritage Topic At Horace Mann
"Our American Heritage" was the theme of the April meeting of Horace Mann Parent Teachers Association. Jim Burns, Danny Foster and William Archer-Burton, member of Cub Pac 102 — Den 3, presented a tableau of Iwo Jima flag raising to open the meeting.
Earl Fleischman, principal, introduced the fifth and sixth grade students who had competed in the district speech contest. Speaking on the subject of "The Great Ideals of America" were Deborah Reeves, who was school winner and competed in the finals, Jane Shanks, Jo Ann Hess, Ellen Foucher and Eileen Eliason.
The school chorus, under the direction of Miss Shirley Hill, sang several selections.
