"There's baseball or softball for every boy, girl, man or woman in Anaheim," says Dave Sommers. Anaheim Park and Recreation Department supervisor, who schedules games and practice sessions at the 10 Junior high schools, 5 senior high schools and 12 parks of Anaheim. "During the season the diamonds are busy seven days a week."
Approximately 135 little league baseball teams are now forming to start their 1963 season. East Anaheim Little League president Russel O. Roquet says, "The boys say the day they make the team is the best day in the whole world for them. They are so enthusiastic and play as hard as they can. Of course, some are pretty sad when they lose a game but it is a wonderful way to teach them good sportsmanship."
Roquet explained that to raise money for equipment, little leaguers are allowed only one fund raising event each year such as a candy sale or a pancake breakfast such as his area will have April 20 at Roosevelt Park.
"The mothers of the Little League Auxiliary are the financial experts. Working in the snack stand last year they netted $2,040. They also handle the tickets for the breakfast," he said.
Family Affair
Little league activities are somewhat of a family affair with the fathers serving as team officials while some of mothers are the official score keepers, announcing the plays over the public address system. Other children in the family are cheering brother's team from the bleachers, so no one is left out, he commented.
To teach the parents how to teach the boys the rules educational pamphlets and films are available. During the season there are clinics and umpire classes for the officials.
In the seven franchise areas of Anaheim the Little League presidents are Roy Schriner, La Palma; Don Scholten, North; Don Campbell, Northwest; Stew Og-

Having fun playing soft comes ahead of winning a game but with the American competitive spirit and desire to win a ball certainly fills the bill wholesome use of leisure time Leininger declared.

Fills Leisure Time
Having fun playing softball ahead of winning a game with the American competition and desire to win soft-certainly fills the bill ofoleses use of leisure time," Singer declared.
Sadies softball has already invested two teams. Miss Elaine Umuckle of the "Flamette's" that this is the first year the Women's Committee of the Southern Counties Gas Co. has sponsored a team and they are very eager to start playing." I am sure softball will be as much fun as the basketball season we just finished," she said.
This summer Anaheim will have a series of leagues within the playgrounds with more than 500 boys participating, as well as teams for the girls. These juvenile leagues, for want of a better name, will be for the ages ranging from "pee wee" through junior high school, Sommers said. These leagues will not be as high organized or as competitive as little league so that boys with lesser athletic ability will have as much opportunity to develop and play their own style.
Sign in June
On June 17 this year, they will sign up at the playgrounds. The $2.00 charge is to help offset the cost of the colored shirt and hat each team member will wear.
"There shouldn't be a single boy in Anaheim left out of baseball if he wants to play," Sommers said.
Sommers advises that before forming a senior league or expanding a league, interested persons should check with the Parks and Recreation Department for scheduling activities. "We find it a problem in opening areas and developing the fields and parks fast enough to keep up with the expansion. Our goal is to give Anaheim the best recreational program possible for all people of all ages and interests," he said.
