Have Talent? City Seeking Program Aid The city of Anaheim’s Park and Recreation Department is looking for talented artists and instructors—in drama, music and dancing—with enthusiasm, fresh ideas and the ability to implement the city's ambitious 1963 Summer Recreation Program. Parks and Recreation Director, John Collier, said he wants to hire people capable of inspiring elementary and junior high school age youngsters in these fields. He said that summer employment for the six-week program will begin June 24. "This is a challenge to leaders in the fields of drama, choral music and modern dance," Collier said. "An opportunity to introduce young people to the basic skills and pleasures of the creative arts." He directed applicants for the 6-week program to the Anaheim Personnel department, 225 East Broadway, Anaheim. Phone: 776-0110, Ext. 333. Forum Will Hear Stanford Figure Pressures on today's youth in their college selection, admission and performance will be discussed by Professor John D. Black of Stanford University in Anaheim on April 19. "The Perils" and Promise of Prestige is the topic for the Stanford Forum luncheon at the Branding Iron Restaurant, 2141 S. Harbor Blvd. The Forum, sponsored by the Stanford Club of Orange County, is open to the public. Dr. Black, professor of psychology and director of the Counseling and Testing Center at Stanford, is also in private business as president of a publishing firm. He is the founder and former chief executive officer of the largest private psychological clinic in northern California. He also is a consultant to Pan American, Lenkurt Electric Company, California Packing Corporation, Varian Associates and other private companies. Professor Black is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. LOOK THE RIGHT WAY — "I'm here," entreats comedian George Gobel in this gag photo as he looks longingly over his shoulder at lovely dancer-singer Elaine Dunn. Both will be at Melodyland in "Bye Bye Birdie," August 27. Gobel and Elaine Dunn Will Star at Melodyland "Lonesome" George Gobel has been tapped by producers Sammy Lewis and Danny Dare for the starring role in "Bye Bye Birdie," which opens Aug. 27 for a two-week run at Melodyland Theatre in Anaheim. Lovely singer-dancer Elaine Dunn will also be starred. "Lonesome George," the epitome of the "little man" who is constantly being rebuffed by the world, is a box office champ in various entertainment media, including television, and the night club and hotel circuits. He has also starred in a number of Broadway musicals, opening a new façet in a fabulous career. The Melodyland Theatre presentation of "Bye Bye Birdie" will be a cinch to the shapey, fast stepping Miss Dunn, who was personally selected to play the feminine lead in the national company of this musical hit a few seasons back. Elaine too is currently in great demand for network TV guest shots, and is a great favorite in Las Vegas, where a visitor may find her headlining at the Sahara, the Riviera, the Tropicana, or some other popular hotel. In addition to "Bye Bye Birdie," Southland theatre lovers will also remember her great performance in one of the main roles of the touring company of "Flower Drum Song." THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF MUSIC SELLING — One may like music but one apparently needs a variety of compelling reasons for getting into the mood to buy. To provide the public with more reasons than just to invest in items at the opening of Al Klinzman's Allied World of Music in Anaheim is Al himself, Miss Junior Miss KGGK, 9-year-old Ethel Parsons of Anaheim; Marilyn Manning of Hollywood, Taldo Kenyon of stage, screen and TV and a real live 1927 Flint auto which belongs to Marilyn for a background. If you are at Klinzman's Friday night you should see them all. Stars Appear on New Anaheim FM Show Anaheim will be the locale for a brand new "star" show, this time over FM stereophonic waves from Klinzman's Allied World of Music at Euclid and Ball. Each Friday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. Miss Dorene Parsons will spark the new show with stars from stage, film and TV who will appear with her on the airwaves. Starting this Friday, April 19, Miss Parsons will have Connie Haines to do the honors for the opening of the Klinzman Magnavox theater. Expected to share in the opening might spectacular are Marilyn Manning, former Miss Westminster of Orange County before step-up up the Hollywood ladder, Taldo Kenyon, blood Carol Holland and Bobby Correll. Saturday, April 20, between 3 and 5 p.m. the Gillette Recording star Wayne West plans to be present at Klinzman's to autograph copies of his new album. Vets on Move Warned to Get Record Change Biggest block to the smooth operation of the Veterans Administration program seems to be the tendency of the American veteran to change his place of residence, John S. Gleason, Jr., Administrator of Veterans Affairs, said today. More than half (52.5 percent) of all the veterans in the United States were living in a different house in 1960 than in 1955, according to a study recently released by the Bureau of the Census. In addition, one veteran in every ten was living in a different state. This shift in location would pose no problem to VA processes if the veterans would notify promptly the VA or their former Postmasters of their new address. Unfortunately large numbers of them never do and, as a result, VA pension, compensation or insurance checks are undeliverable and are returned to the Treasury disbursing office. If the following month's check is also returned, no further monthly mailings may be made. Thus the veteran has unintentionally cut off his own VA payment, until he later makes his whereabouts known. During January, 1963, the records at the VA Data Processing Center, Hines, Ill., show that 67,268 veterans changed their addresses. Some of them notified VA or their former Postmasters but 24,509 checks were returned for lack of delivery information. This oversight often works hardship, especially when the checks are intended for widows with small children who rely upon them as their main source of income. 1A SPECIAL NOTICES INVITE some of your friends in for a home fashion show and world famous Spencer will indiv. design a Bra for you as a gift. 547-9383, 544-5366. Men in Service WYNNE, ARK., PROGRESS: "I see by the papers that the national deficit is now running at the rate of six billion dollars a year. You know, it takes a lot of patriotism to buy government bonds, investing in an organization that is losing money at the rate of $500 million a month. $16,666,666 a day or $694,444 an hour. What I'd like for Christmas is for the Kennedy Boys to quit believing in Santa Claus." VALE, ORE., ENTERPRISE: "There really isn't much doubt left in anyone's mind that we are becoming one of the laziest nations on earth... We have better cars and use them for any trip of over a hundred yards. Golfers don't walk any more, they ride around the course in a golf cart... But now we have stumbled across a new and even grislier gadget. Browsing through our favorite out-of-town paper the other day (the Wall Street Journal) we came across a little paragraph that says a Denver firm has now come up with a battery powered push button spinning reel." Additional strength is needed in the organization, according to Whelpton.
