"Go To My Brethren"
John 20:17
Unless we are carried away with joy on Easter morning, we have missed it all. For the apostles it was not just a happy event, a satisfying experience, a happy event, a satisfying experience, a thrilling occasion. It was for them, literally, life instead of death. They were marked men on Good Friday night. It is just possible that they could have slunk away to Galilee and have been tolerated in an obscure existence. But even if rock-like Peter, fiery James, staunch Andrew, dedicated John and the rest had been allowed to exist without an actual black listing by their enemies, their souls would have been torn apart with shame and mortification. Not only would there have been ridicule from their home town, the agony of having to crawl back and admit they had followed an imposter who claimed to be the Messiah but also there was the mental torment of having deserted, fled from Him, denied this great friend, for he was at least that, in His hour of need.
On Saturday morning Peter said to the rest "I am going fishing", but he and the rest knew that it would be far from the joyous, respectable, growing business on Galilee that he had known before. Perhaps he could be a hired hand out of some one's pity who had remained safe and prudent instead of following this itinerant preacher. The wise thing would have been to slip out of Jerusalem separately in the Friday night darkness before the Temple authorities had recovered from the orgy of the crucifixion enough to seek them. But something held them in the city. Was it the dear feeling of His presence in the beautiful garden of Gethsemane (Continued On Page Two)
Court Backs Gazette
As Legal Newspaper
An attempt on behalf of the Anaheim Bulletin to upset the legal status of the Anaheim Gazette has been rejected unanimously by the state District Court have concurred in a decision by the Superior Court of Orange County that the Gazette is a newspaper of official adjudication and therefore entitled to continue publishing city and other legal advertising.
By having Richard Fischle bring suit in Superior Court, the Bulletin sought to deprive the Anaheim Gazette of the right to publish municipal legal advertising; although the Gazette has been doing so since before 1923.
The Superior Court judge rejected the suit, whereupon the merchandise in its colu and the newspaper's circuit has been increased.
Further improvements and pansion of the Gazette are planned, to keep its progress line with the growth of Anaheim.
Postal Worker
The Anaheim post office takes official action to implement the Post Office Department's program for negotiation and consultation on grievances, work and other related matters. P master Marshall N. McFie reported.
The move developed by the Central Service under President Kendall's history Executive Committee.
Time Short For Themes For Pageant
Less than two weeks remain in which to submit suggestions for the theme of the 75th Tournament of Roses to be held in Pasadena on January 1, 1964, according to Hills M. Bedell, Association president.
Persons interested in taking part in the contest should submit their ideas on post cards — not letters. Postal cards facilitate handling during processing, filing and judging. Entries should be addressed: Tournament of Roses Association, 391 South Orange Grove Blvd., Pasadena, Calif.
The person sending in the idea selected as the theme of the diamond anniversary of the New Year's Day fete will receive two tickets each for the official reviewing stand along the parade route and to the Rose Bowl Game.
In the event the same motif is sent in by more than one person, the card with the earliest post mark will be considered in the judging.
In connection with the search for a theme, President Bedell stated, "We hope to receive a suggestion which is both imaginative and original. The design of the 60 floats in the next parade will revolve about the over-all theme selected."
Some of the recent themes have been "Memorable Moments," "Around the World with Flowers," "Ballads in Blossoms," and "Tall Tales and True."

City Council
Declines Bar
Hearing Role
Foes of the proposed on sale liquor business in the East Anaheim Shopping Center failed to obtain city council support during the past week. Through spokesman Dr. Howard D. Garber, optometist in the shopping center, they petitioned the city council to enter the action.
The council however, declined to look upon the issue as anything other than a legal matter.
Garber and his backers are protesting the issuance of a license for the bar on the grounds that the tavern will be next door to a favorite burger bar for teenagers. They have succeeded in getting
Expect Vote Tonight on Ward Issue
Tonight the city's special Charter commission will meet and is expected to come up with a decision as to whether Anaheim should have a ward or a district system for electing councilmen. Two weeks ago they voted 7 to 7 on the question in the absence of Chairman Robert Doty.
Dr. Doty has given no indication as to how he shall vote on the question and related issues and voting members of the commission have been silent on whether the two-week rest has given them any new insights on the matter.
Arguments for the ward system may be summed up generally as offering a more personal relationship with the council for the public. Backers of the district idea charge the ward system leads to corruption.

The drive to have Orange county designated as a separate Metropolitan Area is once again gaining momentum with help coming from a variety of quarters of interest.
The drive is aimed principally toward the federal government's statistical reporting devices and format. From these records, separation backers claim, there naturally flows some obscurity to Orange county within the unlightened eastern part of the country where economic interest and investors may be looking for outlets.
Initiation of the present drive which is picking up active backing from political figures, entitled the pres and plain John Q. Public, was sparked by Worth Benard of Orange County Newsmagazine of Life, Business and Industry.
"Now is the Time for Los Angeles to Release Orange County," is the title of an editorial in the current issue of the newsmagazine. It reveals for the first time that Los Angeles County alone is now ahead of the 6-county Chicago Standard Metropolitan Area in population.
That makes Los Angeles County the second largest market in the nation without including Orange County's statistics in with lation.
Christian-Pagan Customs Blended
Customs and traditions of Easter season are actually a large mixture of early Christian and ancient pagan beliefs. Easter falls on April 14 this Officially, the date of Easter Sunday following the full moon of Springtime — aula dating back to the Old Testament.
In the Israelites were born in Egypt, Moses led forth by the light of the first full moon. This became the Passover Season for the Israelites was celebrating the Feast Passover when he was crucified. Early Christianity established the date of Easter "movable feast" like the era. The two feasts were used on the same ancient calendar so they would alter only a few days apart. Early Observance before the Christians, the date of almost every recorded son had celebrated the wonder of Spring and the mystery of nature's rebirth at the time of Spring's first full moon.
The modern name for Easter comes from the Teutonic goddess of Spring and the moon, "Eostra". The Easter Bunny may also have been introduced by her worshipers.
Because the rabbit was born with both eyes open and because it usually chose the cover of night to forage for food, a parallel between the hare and the moon was soon drawn. To the early Christians, both were "open - eyed watchers of the night."
This still doesn't explain, however, how the rabbit was endowed with egg - laying powers a point of contention for youngsters in any civilization.
According to legend, Eostra for some reason known only to herself, changed her pet bird into a creature half - hen and half-hare. Both the rabbit and generations of young egg - hunters have been confused ever since.
The tradition of the Easter egg developed independently of the bunny, and only later were they linked in fable.
The ancient Persians claimed the world was hatched from an egg on the first day of Spring. At the vernal equinox, they celebrated their version of New Year's Eve by exchanging colored eggs as good luck charms.
The early Christians adopted the custom, consecrating eggs and staining them deep red, to symbolize the blood of Christ. During the Middle Ages, an Easter gift of colored eggs came to denote affection. Nobility exchanged artfully designed artificial eggs of silver, mother - of - pearl, and bronze.
Cards In Vogue
But, colored eggs, no matter how hard - boiled, proved a bit impractical to send through the medieval mail system. Usually the recipient opened his gift package to find shattered good wishes More practical minds in the 18th and 19th centuries began to exchange Easter cards.
1949 Status
Since 1949, the federal government has been "lumping" Orange County's statiwities in with Los Angeles County's — and cells it the "Los Angeles-Long Beach Standard Metropolitan Area."
Five years ago the Orange County Board of Supervisors and nearly all city councils and chambers of commerce across the county adopt resolutions calling on the federal government to recognize Orange County as a separate metropolitan area and "break it off" from the Los Angeles County statistics. Orange County Newsmagazine points out. But the movement bogged down when the so-called "Los Angeles Metropolitan Area", including all of Los Angeles and Orange Counties moved ahead of the Chicago area to become "Number Two."

Vote Closes Long Period Maneuvering
The residents of Yorba Linda turned down the opportunity to become a part of the city of Anaheim by a crushing majority of ballots cast Tuesday. The unofficial count of votes compiled by the office of City Clerk Mrs. Dene Williams showed a total of 1092 votes against annexation and 607 voting for it. This left only one major question left to be answered by Yorba Lindans: What Next?
The voting by Yorba Linda residents climaxes a long period of up and downs in the possible fate of the area.
There was initially a plan to incorporate for itself. This program lost out and was followed by an effort on the part of Placentia to annex the area. This Placentia effort culminated in a court action which is still pending.
In legal moves Placentia sought to block Anaheim annexation by claiming the right of annexation over a small strip of land that was designed to connect the two cities.
Groups Formed
During the course of events there were groups formed to press this or that issue within the annexation area. Most of the concern by residents seemed to revolve around possible changes in the zoning program already underway. The Peralta Hills group, for example, were deeply concerned that annexation would upset their present minimum acre-restate program.
In efforts to assure residents of Anaheim's good intentions the city council has already passed a special ordinance providing for the estate-sized zoning.
The Yorba Linda Homeowner's Association has been a group opposed to the annexation.
On the plus side has been the Yorba Linda Improvement Association. This group

Los Angeles couldn't afford to give up Orange County's big population at that time, because it would have slipped back to 3rd place, Bernard's editorial hints.
As Orange County's population reaches 1,000,000 people in September, the "Orange County, Califormia, Standard Metropolitan Area", broken away from the Los Angeles area, would attract the attention of industrialists, financiers and marketers as the 26th largest of the 204 metropolitan areas across the nation, the magazine's ditorial explains.
Quick to enter the fray for the change were the county Board of Spervisors. They have passed an official resolution caling for the separation.
Senator Thomas Kuchel lost little time in also adding some fuel to the effort by writing to Kermit Gordon, Budget Bureau Director, but Kuchel sees next year as the best time to make the change.
