New County Fair Building Signed
Completion of the first phase of a new free-span floriculture building for this year's Orange County Fair was assured this week after fair director approved a bid by the Pascoe Steel Corporation at their monthly meeting.
Stewart Yost, fair manager, said Pascoe was low bidder with $44,544 to complete the initial work before fair time, July 9 to 13. The building will be similar to the new agricultural display building, completed last year as a free-span open-sided unit and now being walled-in in the final phase of construction.
The floriculture building will be 90 feet wide and 240 feet long. Yost said.
Another addition for fair goers this year will be a new picnic "shelter" and public park with tables and playground equipment for the youngsters. Directors approved plans and specifications for the $15,000 project and directed Yost to Solicit bids for construction, and to purchase adequate tables and equipment.
In other business, the directors approved an agreement with the Orange County Rodeo Committee, Inc., for the public parking concession during this year's fair with the 32nd District Agricultural Association (Orange County Bank Reveals Trophy Award)
Melodyland Signs Stars
Two more musical comedy stars have been signed by producers Sammy Lewis and Danny Dare for summer appearances at Melodyland Theatre in Anaheim. Handson Richard Eastham will co-star with Janet Blair in "South Pacific," opening July 16, and Giselle MacKenzie will star in "Gypsy," which opens August 13.
Eastham, who is seen coast to coast each week in ABCs "Tombstone Territory," was Ezio Pinza's understudy in the original Broadway production of "South Pacific," and played opposite Miss Blair in the show's national company for a record - breaking 2-year run.
Miss MacKenzie, born in Canada, won fame through her four-year stint on the "Hit Parade." "Discovered" by Jack Benny, when she was singing with the Bob Crosby band in Las Vegas. Giselle won her "Hit Parade' pact on what is probably the most expensive audition in show business.
