County Names New Teacher Advisor Aide Jack Schumaker, former Assistant Principal of Bolsa Grande High School, has taken over as head of the Teacher Advisory Service for the County Superintendent of Schools. Schumaker attended elementary and high school in Garden Grove. While at Garden Grove High School, he was student body president, an honor student, a four letterman, and captain of the Argonaut football team. He received his undergraduate training at Fullerton Junior College and Whittier College and he has done graduate work at Long Beach State and Chapman. After receiving his teaching Math and Social Studies at Garden Grove High School for five years. He served three years as Vice Principal of Bolsa Grande and was Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent for one year. He then returned to Bolsa Grande as Assistant Principal. During World War II, Schumaker served in the infantry for 2½ years. He has five battle stars and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received in the Battle of the Bulge. Schumaker will aid districts in the important and difficult job of obtaining teachers, according to Frank Grunenfelder, County Superintendent of Schools. Ruth Peabody, Earl Daniels, and Frank Interlandi chose Shreves' interpretation of the song "I Believe" from 31 coastal area entries in the first contest of its kind. He will be awarded a check for $300 at the July 5 preview of the Pageant of the Masters, running this year from July 6 through August 11. His painting will be recreated as one of the "living pictures." Shreves received most of his art training in Los Angeles but has studied in Chicago, Denver, and in Europe. He is a frequent Festival of Arts exhibitor at the All California Exhibit and exhibits throughout southern California. Shreves is confined to a wheel-chair as the result of an Army injury. Orange County USC Alumni P Orange county alumni of the University of Southern California will honor USC Chancellor Rufus B. von KleinSmid for his 41 years of service to the University at a dinner Thursday night, March 28, in the Magnolia Room of Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. The event, one of 29 such dinner meetings being held all over the United States honoring Dr. Von KleinSmid, is expected to attract several hundred persons. At each of these meetings, attendees are signing special scrolls which will be presented to the Chancellor on the occasion of Alumni Day, which will be held on the USC campus April 27. Dr. von KleinSmid will be 88 years old in June. Born in Sandwich, Ill., he has been an educator for more than 65 years. After teaching at the Academies of both Northwestern and DePauw Universities, he accepted the presidency of the University of Arizona in 1914, serving there until he was named USC president in 1921. He served in that position until 1947 when he became USC's Chancellor. Despite his advancing years, Dr. von KleinSmid is still active daily on the USC campus.
