Stichhoth Rebel Hopes Said 'Bleak' After posting a 4-5 win loss record in pre-league and tourney competition the best description of Savanna's hopes to capture the Crestview League Basketball crown is still "bleak." At least that's the forecast by Rebel Mentor John Fransen as he reflected upon the last few weeks of play The only bright spot being a second place trophy brought home from the Hawthorne Invitational tournament They failed to even place in the Huntington Beach event. Fransen doesn't even see a bright spot in the Rebel rebucing of cross - town rivals Magnolia. "They'll probably beat us the next three games," he said, referring to the fact that his cagers will face the Sentinels three times in league play. Major Problem One of Fransen's major problems has been the rebuilding of his team around his only returning lettermen, Bill Brackney and Stan Newton. He has only eight other men, giving him a 10-man squad. Others going out for basketball include Doug Bell, Norris Carey, Dennie Cummings, Mike Davis, Stephen Fitch, Larry Hall, Cecil Luthultz, and Don Perkins. The Crestview League plays three rounds with the Rebels facing Tustin, a team with a record about like theirs, Tuesday, Jan. 7 on the Tillers home court at 3:15.
