County Medical Association
Names New Slate of Officers
Drs. Harold F. Galbraith of Fullerton and Hugh J. Plumb, Jr., of Newport Beach will head a new slate of officers scheduled to be installed by the Orange County Medical Association (OCMA) on January 12.
Dr. Plumn was elected to the president-elect position in a mail balloting of OCMA members.
Dr. Galbraith, after serving as president-elect during the current year, will succeed Dr. William K. Friend as president.
Dr. Laurance A. Mosier of Garden Grove was elected secretary-treasurer in the recently completed balloting Dr. Mosier has served on the association's board of directors for the past five years He succeeds Dr. Wavnard W. Lowe in the secretary-treasurer's post.
Dr. Ball Re-elected
Dr. Dexter R. Ball of Santa Ana was re-elected OCMA librarian for the 10th consecutive year.
Dr. Carl J. Paul of Orange was re-elected editor of the OCMA Bulletin. Dr. Paul has edited the monthly journal during the current calendar year.
Dr. Richard F. Altman of Newport Beach, after completing a three-year term on the association's board of directors, was re-elected to the board.
Drs. Dexter T. Ball of Santa Ana and Wallace A. Gerrie of Newport Beach also were elected to the board.

For the first time, local contributions to the annual fund drive helped to provide $250 scholarships at the University of California medical schools at San Francisco and Los Angeles in an effort to interest promising young people in medical careers, Dr. Smith said.
Selected by the medical school faculties, the talented teenagers spent eight weeks of their vacation working with trained investigators on actual research projects ranging from physiological chemistry to a study of bacteria which closely resembles the germ causing tuberculosis.
According to Dr. Smith, the pilot scholarship project was so successful that the medical school authorities are anxious to enlarge the program next year.
American Savings Up Paid Interest Rates
American Savings and Loan Association, effective for the quarter beginning Jan. 1, 1963, will increase its interest rate paid on savings accounts to 4.8 per cent per annum, payable quarterly, it was announced by Lowell Peterson, executive vice president.
American Savings, one of Southern California's largest, maintains 13 branch offices and has assets over $400 million.
Upon notification of his appointment, Sumner said: "I accept this appointment with pleasure. The Republican Party has a g future in California and I proud to have been chosen by able leader Cap Weinberger help mold that future. New Inn To Open in Anaheim This Month
The new Disneyland Caravan Inn is expected to open this month in Anaheim, according to an announcement made Saturday by E. J. Tad Crofoot, Vice-president of Pacific Hosts in Sacramento. Pacific Hosts will manage the hotel, along with the Caravan Inn, Bakersfield, Caravan Inn, Sacramento, The Crows Nest Sacramento, and the Boon Dox in Walnut Grove.
Owners of the Anaheim property are William Isaac and Walter E. Hauptman, both from Los Angeles. The decorator is Les Belmuth & Associates, Los Angeles, and the architect is Jim Hodges, Los Angeles.
'Operation Whistle Stop'
Scheduled for December 28
California, which will be the nation's most populous state by the end of the year, will also be the noisiest on the final Friday of 1962.
December 28 has been earmarked for Operation Whistle Stop, with Californians urged to toot whistles, honk horns, ring bells and shoot off village cannons in celebration of their state becoming No. 1 in population. This crescendo of sound is scheduled to reach its climax at 4 p.m. on the big day, according to Frank M. King, president California Asso-ciation of Chamber of Commerce Managers.
Several hundred local charities are using Operation Whistle Stop as the starting signal for community activities with a California First" theme. Park store displays, school, church club programs, "oldest searches, sports and events, fiestas, essay and contests are all included in ber plans.
