Anaheim High Cagery
Set to Defend Title
Anaheim High School has lined up with 15 other top cage teams in the Southland waiting for the tip-off in the twenty-first annual Beverly Hills High School Invitationed for December 11 through 15.
"Traditionally one of the outstanding tournaments of its kind in Southern California, this year's tourney should prove 'no exception,' declared Walt Puffer, co-host of the event and director of athletics at Beverly Hills.
As the 16 squads prepare to clash in Beverly Hills' famed Swim-Gym, experts are touting El Monte and Compton as the teams to beat.
Anaheim Defending Champs
Defending tourney champs Anaheim posted a 25-2 mark last year, but they will have trouble repeating this record for two consecutive campaigns.
Returning is only one letterman, 6' 4" forward Loy Petersen. The Colonists will be handicapped by getting a late start in practice and also will lack height and speed. While Coach Don Liebart's crew may not be quite ready for the tournament.

While Coach Don Liebhart's crew may not be quite ready for the tournament competition yet, it is a good bet that when league season begins, the defending Sunset League champs will be a tough team to knock over.
Vie For Trophies
Other squads vying for one of the trophies given to the five finishers are Bellflower, Culver City, El Segundo, Fillmore, Mira Costa, Montebello, Morningside, North Torrance, Redondo, Santa Monica, Torrance, and Ventura high schools, along with the host Beverly Hills Normans."
Outstanding player of the tourney will receive a gold trophy, while individual plaques will go to players named on the first and second All-Tournament teams. Coach of the winning team also will be presented with a desk trophy, Puffer states.
Outstanding Event
The BHIBT has become one of the outstanding traditional events for the Beverly Hills student body, according to Dr. F. Willard Robinson, principal. "Keen competition, great sportsmanship, and excellent basketball have been characteristic of this tournament." Robinson pointed out.

Beat El Rancho 14-6; Meet Redlands Friday
Led by Ty Salness, Sunset League Player of the Year, Anaheim's amazing Colonists managed to slip by a rugged and determined El Rancho eleven Friday night, 14-6, to gain the semi-finals of the CIF Playoff.
Anaheim's first tally came late in the second period as a result of a Don fumble on their own 23 which was recovered by halfback Dennis Branchaud.
Hutchinson Scores
Five plays and a first down later, halfback Marty Hutchinson plunged over from the one yard line. Lou Torres made the conversion and the Colonists led 7-0. That's the way the first half ended.
A completely fired-up El Rancho team returned for the second half and midway in the third quarter the Dons had moved the ball to Anaheim's four yard line.
At the start of the fourth quarter, Don quarterback Tom Egan, who played a bang-up offensive game, was thrown for a four yard loss.
Salness Intercepts
Egan, faced with a third down situation, launched a pass. The alert and speedy Salness gathered in the pigskin on his own two yard line and raced 98 yards down the sideline to paydirt.
Lou Torres again converled and with less than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Colonists led 14-0.
Not yet willing to concede, the determined Dons took the kickoff

At each of the participating houses local managers will present, at the week's end, house trophies to their top male and female rollers. The traditional "Emdee" statuette, consisting of the Association's insignia of the torch of knowledge and medical caduceus, is prominently featured on the state and house trophies.
Further, for the top bowler in each league a distinctive black and silver Jerry Lewis plaque will be awarded. In mixed leagues both the top male and female will rate a plaque.
A spokesman for the DAA stated that the three County Chapters appreciate greatly the cooperation and support of the Lane operators and their generous bowlers. The returns will help each local Association provide braces, wheelchairs, lifts, therapies, clinic visits, handicap children's summer camp and recreation for the patients. There is also a vast research program of 100 research teams supported by DAA — all dedicated to find the cause and cure for this fatal muscle-waster disease. Approximately 70 per cent of the victims are children who will never walk again. There are seven such teams currently working at UCLA Medical and Veterans' Administration Centers, under research grants from MDAA.

Lou Torres again converted and with less than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Colonists led 14-0.
Not yet willing to concede, the determined Dons took the kickoff and marched 68 yards in six plays to score. The conversion was missed and Anaheim led 14-6. Time had run out on El Rancho and thats the way the game ended.
Face Terriers
The Colonists face the mighty Redlands Terriers Friday night at Mt. San Antonio College Stadium.
With the kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m., the Colonists will meet their most rugged opposition to date. Coach Frank Serrao's mighty eleven romped freely over Long Beach Poly Tech by the score of 28-6 Friday night.
Chips Down
The chips are down as the winner of this game will go on to meet the winner of the Glendale-Loyala game for the California Interscholastic Federation "AAAA" title.
The "Four-A" title tilt is scheduled for Friday. Dec. 14 at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
