Make Those Gift Wrappings Gay! Half the fun of receiving Christmas presents is in admiring beautifully wrapped packages. Fortunately, it's easy to create unusual and pretty packages, and it's fun, too! Here are a few suggestions for wrapping your gifts this Christmas: When selecting ribbon for a package, remember to use light ribbons when wrapping with dark paper as dark ribbon would make your package look heavy. Be sure to wrap your package snugly, without bulges, tying ribbons firmly. The secret of a neat package is in using the right size of wrapping paper to avoid bunchiness. Cut your paper to allow for a 2-inch over-lap lengthwise, leaving the ends approximately 1" longer than half the depth of the box. Fasten paper firmly around the box with seals, paste or sticky tape. If you are using paper with a large design on it, check to make sure the design is showing on the face of the box before you fasten your paper into place. Once your package is wrapped, draw ribbon around the box and tie it securely with a square knot. You can vary your design many ways, simply by changing the direction of your ribbon. The cross-corner-tie is achieved by drawing your ribbon slantwise to top of box, under upper right corner, up and over lower right, under lower left, back to your starting point. The sunburst tie can be made by winding ribbon in parallel middle finger, with forefinger behind ribbon to steady it. Form two equal length loops, cut ends slightly longer than loops, trimming ends on sharp slant. Tie a narrower length of ribbon around your bow with a square knot; fasten it to your box. Two shoestring bows tied together for an even lovlier bow. The "spring" bow is another simple-to-make bow that has many delightful variations. To form this bow, wind ribbon around tip of your thumb, making graduated loops equal in distance from each other until bow reaches desired size. Continue holding bow firmly between thumb and fore-finger as you slip a narrow ribbon through center loop and tie it with a square knot.
