Servite Friars' 1st Homecoming Dance 'Success'
Servite's first homecoming was culminated Sunday night by one of the most successful dances in the schools five year history.
Held at the Retail Clerks Union Auditorium on Stanton Ave. in Buena Park the dance was the scene of the coronation of Servite's first homecoming queen Miss Ardis Fellmer, senior at Marywood High School in Anaheim.
Over 400 people were present to enjoy the music of the Leopoldo combo, a new Jazz group from the metropolis who made such an impression on the gathering that they will be asked to play at the forthcoming Christmas formal.
The hall was decorated by a group of student volunteers working in conjunction with the Servite Mothers Guild.

Halftime Ceremonies
Highlight Friar Game
By TIM VOLLMANN
During the halftime of the Friars' football game with Cantwell at Westminster Stadium Servite had the festivities for its first homecoming in the young history of the school. The school welcomed back its alumni, one graduating class, that of '62.
The ceremonies began as the Servite Strutters drill team of neighboring Marywood formed a heart, and the Candy Stripers drill team of Cornelia Connelly made an arrow which pierced the heart. Each of the princesses and finally the queen entered the heart with their escorts.
The queen was Ardis Fellmer of Marywood, and her escort was the student body president of Servite, Ken Euske. There were two princesses for each of the freshman and sophomore classes, one each from Marywood and Cornelia Connelly, the latter having only the first two years. The princesses were: Geri Rossini, Senior; Betsy Markin, junior; Carole Herrick, sophomore from Connelly; Jo Ann Schoffit, sophomore from Marywood; Betty Blackburn, freshman from Connelly; and June Kennelly, freshman from Marywood.
The climax of the ceremonies came when the unofficial queen of Servite in its early years, Mrs. Nancy Dena, wife of the co-head coach of the football team and instructor of the drill team of Marywood, presented a bouquet of roses to the queen. After the princesses had each been presented with bouquets by their escorts, they were escorted from the field.

Five Former Anaheim Players To Aid Santa Ana College Cause
(Special to The Gazette)
Southern California's greatest junior college football rivalry — Santa Ana versus Fullerton — will be renewed Saturday night when the Rose-Bowl bound Dons seek to avoid a derailment from the powerful Hornets.
Santa Ana vaulted to the top of the Rose Bowl hopefuls with a convincing 34 to 12 victory over also abateen Orange Coast College, while up at Bakersfield, the unranged Renegades outgunned last - ranked - nationally Long Beach, 0 to 0. Observers feel that SAC win over Fullerton virtual-insures a trip to Pasadena Dec. 15, the first time an Eastern conference team had the nod. Cook's 1949 Dons lost a heart-beater to Little Rock, 25 to 19.
Fullerton Improving
Fullerton lost only to Coast, 25 to 20, and was tied by Mt. San Antonio. But Brig Owens & Co. were on the upsurge, demolishing riverside and Citrus the past two weeks.
It will match Owens versus All-American candidate Dunn Marion of the Dons, both deluxe passers. It will display the prowess big Steve Ledbetter, who was All-CIF Player of the Year at American Keith Luhnow's touchdown rambles of 92, 83 and 71 yards. The score was 47 to 16.
This year, Coach Homer Beatty's Dons don't rely on an individual star like Luhnow, who was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers. Instead, Beatty has a balanced team — in fact about three teams.
Versatile Marteen
Marteen is considered a top choice for All - American after his spectacular play, especially against crucial opponents Riverside, Chaffey and Orange Coast. In these three contests against first division foes, Marteen accounted for 76 Don points through his running - passing - kicking abilities.
He threw eight touchdown passes in three games, ran for six points on three tries. He accounted for eight conversion boots and one pass for a two-pointer.
Against cross-county rival Orange Coast, with 10,000 screaming fans inside the old Santa Ana Bowl before firemen turned away thousands more. Marteen opened the scoring with an eight-yard toss to halfback Mike Anderson. The score climaxed a 13-play, 56-yard drive the second time they pased the last four yards to Anderson.
Ledbetter Scores
Alert guard Ray Vincent set up the next Don score, recovering a Bob Haynes bobble on the Buc 32. After a 20-yard Marteen to Jim Williamson aerial, Ledbetter boomed the final three to give the Dons a 21 to 6 lead.
The Pirates moved 71 yards for their only other score, with Haynes slipping to paydirt from the eight to climax White's attempted two-point pass misfired.
The Dons marched right back 75 yards in seven plays, with Marten rambling 35 yards and Ledbetter 24 yards on three carries, to set up a scoring pass to Joel Ohlgren from Marteen, on the eighth.
Marteen Again
The final Don touchdown came on an 80-yard march, featuring Marteen and Ledbetter. After having his jersey ripped off on a hard tackle, Marteen scored from the two and converted to post the 34-point total.
The win gave Santa Ana 326 points to 31 for the opposition, and a straight-hold on almost every record in the conference books. The victory boosted Beatty's San-
