Boy Scouts Announce For International ALAN C. STONEMAN named committee chairman Alan Stoneman Named Chairman By Big Brothers Robert Guggenheim, Jr., president of Big Brothers of Orange County, announced today that Alan C. Stoneman, president of Purex Corporation and member of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers of Orange County, has been named Chairman of the organization's Special Gifts Committee for 1962-63. "Due to the superb support given to the Big Brothers by the Orange County press", stated Guggenheim, "over one hundred men have volunteered to act as Big Brothers and unselfishly give their time to aid fatherless boys. This means that we will be able to assign Big Brothers to Little Brothers at a faster rate than ever before if the citizens of Orange County will donate funds necessary to support the increased activity." Plans for the third International Camporee of Boy Scouts of America, sponsored by Northern Orange County Council with headquarters in Anaheim, neared completion when nine scouters journeyed to Ensenada recently for a conference with officials of the Asociacion de Scouts de Mexico. Site for the International Camporee, which is expected to draw a registration of more than 3,000 Explorers and Boy Scouts, will be Estero Beach Resort, approximately six miles south of Ensenada. Camporee Dates Set Dates of the camporee are Nov. 23, 24 and 25. This means that we will be able to assign Big Brothers to Little Brothers at a faster rate than ever before if the citizens of Orange County will donate funds necessary to support the increased activity." In accepting the appointment, Stoneman said, "The need for support from Orange County citizens is greater than ever before. At the present time our Big Brothers of Orange County has some 109 fatherless boys waiting assignment and recent studies in our county indicate several hundred more potential cases where Big Brothers can provide much needed guidance. And I feel it is most important to clarify the fact that all funds raised in this county to help carry on the Big Brothers' program are spent directly in this County in administering this program that is so important to the welfare of our community's fatherless youth." "It is interesting to note," Stoneman added, "that the average cost per boy in privately administering our Big Brothers' program is approximately $250, as compared to about $6,000 cost to the taxpayers for each boy under the jurisdiction of the California Youth Authority." The Big Brothers of Orange County operates exclusively from privately donated funds and is the County's only all-sectarian agency dedicated to helping fatherless boys through providing properly supervised guidance.
