Earlier Lorenzen had driven the Ford at its best speed of 176.978 m.p.h. In a north-south run on the Bonneville straightaway last week, Lorenzen averaged 172.26 m.p.h. in the measured mile. The Holman and Mooy car, prepared in Charlotte, N.C., established national records with a flying start from 25 kilometers to 500 kilometers and up to 400 miles.
