A powerful racing machine, alternately by Fred Lorenz of Elmhurst, Ill., Don White Keokuk, Iowa, and Ralph Boyd of Charlotte, N.C., set new "B" marks at every disband between 25 kilometers and miles. Average speed for the mile, three-hour run was 5 miles per hour from a fly-fart and 163.85 from a stand-start. Speed trials yesterday were monitored by the United States Club. Long the recent records broken by the Lorenzen-White-Moody team were two in the National "B" Class that were set last summer by Mickey Thompson at the salt flats. The 165.65 m.p.h. flying start average at 400 miles broke Thompson's record of 142.94 and the new three-hour flying mile record of 168.33 m.p.h. topped Thompson's 1962 run of 143.12 m.p.h. Many of the records that fell yesterday had been on the USAC rolls since 1935 when Ab Jenkins drove a Duesenberg Special at the salt flats. The fastest lap of the 10-mile circle was 169.4 m.p.h. Earlier Lorenzen had driven the Ford at its best speed of 176.978 m.p.h. In a north-south run on the Bonneville straightaway last week, Lorenzen averaged 172.26 m.p.h. in the measured mile. The Holman and Mooy car, prepared in Charlotte, N.C., established national records with a flying start from 25 kilometers to 500 kilometers and up to 400 miles. From a standing start, the record string extended from 25 kilometers to 500 miles. The international record string stretched from 100 kilometers to 500 kilometers. The Holman and Moody car, prepared in Charlotte, N.C., established national records with a flying start from 25 kilometers to 500 kilometers and up to 400 miles. From a standing start, the record string extended from 25 kilometers to 500 miles. The international record string stretched from 100 kilometers to 500 miles. New one-hour and three-hour records from both standing and flying starts also were established. The Holman and Moody car was the same one that won the Atlanta "500" mile race earlier this year. The 483-cubic-inch test engine from Ford Motor Company's Engine and Foundry Division in Dearborn, Mich., was installed in the car after only 20 minutes break-in. Horsepower and torque ratings have not yet been established for the engine. FUN!! PRIZES!! for grade school BOYS 7 through 11 OUR PUNT, PASS & KICK COMPETITION IT'S FREE! YOU CAN BE A WINNER: WIN!
