Ike League Installs Slate
Anaheim's Izaak Walton League has slated a family night complete with chicken dinner as its kickoff meeting for new officers.
The dinner will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday night, July 14, at the La Palma Youth Center clubhouse, 317 E. La Palma St.
Ralph Bartlett will be installed as president of the local League for the 1962-63 year. Martin Willis will serve as first vice president, Dick Cull as second vice president, Jack Kester as secretary and Romeo Provost as treasurer.
A door prize and local entertainment will highlight the evening.
Wanted: Jr. Science Entries for LA Fair
Young scientists and mathematicians in Southern California's public, private or parochial schools may still enter the competition in the sixth annual Junior Technical Science exhibition sponsored by General Dynamics of Pomona in cooperation with the Los Angeles County Fair.
The announcement was made this week by John W. Corr, Jr., educational services director of General Dynamics.
Competition is divided into two divisions: Junior, grades seven through nine; Senior, grades 10 through 13.
Flower Societies Hold Potluck-Meets
Tonight's meeting of the Orange County branch of the American Begonia Society will be held in the Grange Hall, Century Blvd. and Taft St. in Garden Grove.
A pot luck dinner at 7 p.m. will precede the meeting.
Mrs. Dorothy Behrends, author an authority on begonias and their care, will be the guest speaker. A begonia table will be featured.
Methodists Set Family Picnic
On Sunday, July 22, Saint Mark's Methodist Church, 3718 West Orange Ave., will host its second annual family picnic from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cypress Park, Crescent Ave. at Watson.
Member families and friends will bring their own picnic lunches and participate in an afternoon of group games, fun and recreation.
The picnic is being sponsored by the church's Commission on Education under the leadership of the minister, Rev. Randall Hand, and the Commission chairman, Mrs. John S. Lyons.

Elephants Play In Disney Pool
An elephant bathing pool which a baby elephant squirrel water at an approaching crocodile will be featured in Walt Disney's new Adventure and Jungle Cruise and Tahitian Terra which has just opened.
The entire jungle journey has been greatly lengthened and highlighted by the addition of new fun theme in animation known as Audio Animatronics, space age version of animation pioneered by Walt Disney. Animatronics incorporates similar controls used in today's satellites space flight.
The Tahitian Terrace, one three new dining places, offers Polynesian dishes and entertainment by the Royal Tahitians. The group, emerging out of a real wterfall in the side of a cliff, features songs and dances of the lands, a real barefoot firewall and ancient fire dances.
Also now open in Adventure land is the big game safari shooting gallery with all the atmosphere of an African game reservation.

Two City Men Get Ford Gold Circles
Two Anaheim Ford dealership employees of McCoy Motor Co. — Charles Bush, parts sales manager, and Douglas Hankins, service manager — have been presented the first annual Golden Circle Award by Ford Division of Ford Motor Company.
The award is for outstanding accomplishments in carrying out managerial responsibilities for parts and labor sales, parts purchase control, shop productivity, sales promotion and advertising and customer satisfaction.
Each Golden Circle Award winner receives a certificate and a gold lapel pin. A diamond will be added to the pin for each repeat award.

Nets Him $6080
Give Joseph Hurzler a penny for his thoughts and you'd make a mint!
Hurzler, a systems test man, chanic at Autonetics' Anaheim division of North American Aviation, dropped an idea in the suggestion box recently and netted himself $6080 for his effort.
The check is the largest award ever given an employee at the Anaheim division. Hurzler received it under a program which rewards non-supervisory personnel for ideas leading to improvement in production reliability or lower costs.
Hurzler's award was the third large one presented this month. H. Ray Erath, electronic assemblyman, received $4940 and A. Ybarra, production support leader, won $3220 last week.
Hurzler received his award for suggesting a replacement of three electronic panels with a simple piece of equipment to be used in the testing of radar systems. The newly-implemented equipment not only performs the same function as the three expensive panels, but does it more simply and at much lower cost.

The old west will be relived again today at all the playgrounds in the Anaheim area when the theme "Frontier Week", is observed throughout the city.
This special activity, one of nine events sponsored by the Anaheim Park and Recreation will get underway at 1:30 p.m. and will present on its program such acts, as:
— A quick draw contest.
— Real live "Red-Eye" for the youngsters.
— A turtle and frog race.
— Cowboys and Indians, and
— A painted town, resembling Dodge City.
Most of the activity will be centered at Pearson Park, where Senior leaders, Al Peraza and Marilyn Fuller have been helping the downtown youngsters spruce up the city park with painted card board resembling a western town and even added a hanging tree with a victim.
Len Roberts, supervisor of Men and Boy's activities let it be known that each Thursday, a special event will be organized to fit into the weekly theme. Arts and Crafts, playground games, story-telling and excursions are

Parent Group Slates Barbeque for Teens
The Fullerton-Anaheim Chapter of Parents Without Partners Inc. will hold a hamburger barbecue for teenagers of single parent families at 2858 W. Academy, Anaheim, July 20 at 7 p.m.
The barbecue is one of the many family activities sponsored by this organization. Newcomers are welcome and all interested teenagers may call Richard Smits at 527-4215 for reservations.

He continued, "Those at Pearson Park have worked hard for this activity and I know any one who takes time out to visit their Western town won't be disappointed. The hangman's tree even looks authentic."

MATCHA DOIN'? — Marilyn Fuller, Anaheim Park and Recreation Department senior leader finds there's a tow-head lookin' over her shoulder. She's telling Bill Paterson that she's painting the Dodge City cardboard background for "Fron-tier Day." The simulated city street will witness shootin', hangin', and some indulgin' in what's called, "Red Eye."
Pallet Theater Takes Turn 'Under the Stars'

The Anaheim Park and Recreation Department's, "Under the Stars" musical series takes a turn tomorrow night., when internationally known choreographer, Angiola Sartorio presents her Dance Theatre in a colorful performance at Pearson Park's Greek Theatre.
Miss Sartorio was the choreographer of the world famous Florentine May Festivals and had her own brilliant ballet company of the City of Florence which toured the European continent.
The newly formed dance company will present on the program a dance from the English ballad, "Greensleeves", a ballet on the story of cupid and Psyche; "The Emperor's New Clothes", traditional childrens story, and "The Vinter's Daughter", original music by Miklos Rozsa based on a French folk song.
Featured dancers are Jean Ingram, Richard Oliver, one of the great dancers on the West Coast, Paulette Shafranski, David Hitehcock., along with Daniel Pope and Dana Mason.
Guest pianist will be Arnold Juda.
The Sartorio dancers have been praised by critics in Florence, Vienna, Frankfurt, Salzburg and Zurich.
Curtain time is 8 p.m. Admission is free.

Registration for the third session in swimming instructions sponsored by the Aquatics Division of the Park and Recreation Department will be held July 28 with lessons beginning July 30.
The classes, which are under Red Cross certified instruction, will be conducted at all three pools, Anaheim High, Pearson Park and Western High.
