Letters to the Editor

Dear Sir:
What happened, Bob? Did all your readers decide to write letters to some other paper, or is it possible they have lost interest now that the election is over?
I must congratulate you on the editorial that you did on the pressure groups, City Council, etc. I can't say that I agree with your ideas all the time, but you have a right to your opinion.
For some reason I think Orange County is beginning to tell on you just a little. It could be that the association you are having with these wide-awake citizens are having their effect. Bob, don't be too upset, but believe me, son, you can stand a little of the conservative rubbing off on you. It isn't good to be the editor of a newspaper and not have a better understanding of your American Heritage.
Speaking of conservative gives me an idea, Bob. Why don't you do an editorial on the Conservative Coordinating Council of Orange County. Right now, it would be timely and informative. Many people in Anaheim are still asking questions about this organization and I believe it would be in the best traditions of journalism if you did a little public research on the subject. By the way, I am not yet a member of this organization, but will certainly join in the next month.
It will be interesting to see what course of action they choose when it comes to Nixon or Brown. Right now, many of these conservatives write to another paper, or up because the election was over. Because of space limitation didn't put them in last week.
I don't like to brag, but I ously doubt whether there are many people in Orange County or anywhere, for that matter, are more aware of their American Heritage than I. It for very reason that I oppose extists, either to the left or the right.
I presume you are insinuated that anyone who is not a member or supporter of the Coordinating Council, or the John Birchers, a leftist and not appreciative their American Heritage. My suggest you learn a little tolerant before you take to handing free political advice.
As far as the Coordinating Council supporting Dick Nixon am with you all the way. If Nixon is going to dump Brown in November elections he will support of all Republicans.
As far as his admitting he poor judgment in attacking John Birch Society, why she he? He used extremely good judgment, both politically and ethically.
If he reneges to gain the port of a small group of crybies and sore losers, he will backing of his loyal staunch supporters, me along them.
While he needs the support the extremists, he can hardly ford to abandon those who him in 2-1 over Joe Shell, just get the votes of a loser, can he Bob Abboreno

HIestand to Go To Washington
Rep. Edgar W. Hiestand of the 21st District this week informed Orange County and Long Beach area groups he will fly from Washington to fill a speaking date on July 4 at a "Pageant of Flags" program, complete with band concert and a procession of historic flags dating to Revolutionary days.
The program, open to the public, will begin at 10 a.m. in the forecourt of the Church of Our Fathers at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park, 4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress. The historic church setting is patterned after St. John's church in Richmond, Va., where Patrick Henry made his immortal speech.
MTA Board Members To Keep Lower Fare
MTA Board members this week voted to continue a reduced-fare program for senior citizens for an additional year.
To offset an annual $130,000 loss resulting from the lower fare, the Board authorized an increase in the basic senior citizen reduced fare from 15 to 20 cents, beginning July 1.

parts for a long time and if anyone is going to get nasty, they may be picking on the wrong party. I don't mean that Jim is going to punch you in the nose as I believe he has grown out of that stage, but I do believe more people around these parts would prefer to listen to Jim Townsend, instead of you.
Before you get any ideas about this letter being prompted by the gentleman mentioned above, let me hasten to assure you that I haven't seen Jim since he graduated from school. I have been able to follow him through the stories and articles that have appeared in the local press. He still sounds the same to me.

P.S. My daughter is just about the same age I was when I last saw Jim Townsend and I have 3 boys to boot.
We are happy to hear you were amused; at least the editorial did bring forth some response within you. However, it wasn't written to amuse. Perhaps you ought to read it again.
The word 'smear' as used in the editorial suggests the spreading of rumors and often downright lies concerning an individual. These are usually spread by means of a whispering campaign where the individual who is the target cannot protect himself.
Anything we have said about Mr. Townsend can certainly be proven. In no way or form have we attempted to discredit him two hot brickettes in my head.
"What did you find?" I am easing myself into a chair.
"Well," he said, "you're now, but it's possible you're to be sick."
"I'm not sick now but I won't later?"
"That's right. There are cations that you may come with mononucleosis. It's still early to tell."
"What's that, for heat sake?" I asked.
It's an illness that saps all strength and leaves you lagging in bed for months. Come in two weeks. I want to see it's progressing."
"Progressing! You're not to try to prevent it?"
He shrugged. "Can't prevent can't cure it. Have to let it its course."
I went home and went to I might as well get ready for Spacem Disneyl

Editor:
After reading your editorial in week's gazette, I couldn't but smile. Your reference to Chavos, the City Council and West Anaheim Property Owners Association were most funny. In just see you, the pompous Mr. sitting around his clutched desk, with his eye glasses tied up above his eyebrows, ing his head and saying dear, yes that what it is, Mr. Course, you never did who was being smeared. It's right though, as a middle road editor, I probably take my chance and just be very funny to hear youplain about smears, dear, as I thought you thrived at kind of journalism. Havoujust spent the last two three weeks smearing Jim Townsend and the Conservative纠? While I really don't know what kind of person you when it comes to being into-earth guy, I doubt if can hold a stick to Jim Townsend.

Dear Sir:
I suppose there are all kind of adjectives one could use to describe the feelings your editorial page gives me. To be safe I had better limit my comments. If I do that, maybe you'll have a kind word or two to say and not use me as a means of batting your own political feelings around. Yes, that's what I should do, but I'm not going to.
The attack that your readers have subjected Mr. Jim Townsend to, is nothing short of an outrage. I would think a citizen that lives in the United States would not be so ready to condemn its constitutional supporters.
Mr. Townsend has been one of the best constitutionalists in Southern California. Does that call for our citizens to become enraged for a man wanting to live by the rules that were established by our Founding Fathers?
Well, I don't need a doctor to tell me why I'm jumpy. It's your cigarette cough."
"Besides," he continued with a little cough, "I like it; it's part of my personality."
Sick or well, going to the doctor always breaks down my health some. I can feel myself going downhill the minute I step into the waiting room. And the longer I have to wait, the more I deteriorate. By the time I get into the examination room my weight is down and my blood pressure's up.
"Does your heart always pound like that?" asked the nurse.
"Only when I come in here," I said.
"How silly. Here," she said, tossing me a bed sheet, "take your clothes off and put this on. The doctor will be in in a minute."
That Morgue Feeling
Lying on a table under a sheet always gives me the feeling I'm already beyond help, and I have to keep resisting the impulse to pull the sheet up over my face.
"Hello, there!" the doctor said in his best table-side manner. "And how are you today?"
"You tell me," I said sourly.
"She's nervous and doesn't know why," said the nurse.
"I know why!" I barked. "I'm here, that's why."
"You sound jumpy," the doctor observed, scanning my case history folder. He made me sit up and began thumping my back.
"How's the slipped disc?" he asked.
"Fine. Hasn't slipped in a year. I think it's cured."
He gave me a cold look. "It will never be cured. Just because it feels all right it doesn't mean you can go around surfing and motorcycle riding." He pushed me back down and began probing my abdomen.
"Close your eyes," said the nurse from over my head. I closed them and two drops of liquid dropped into the corners and began stinging.
"What are you doing to me?" I shrieked, my eyes shut tight.
"Open them," he said.
"I'm afraid!"
If you open them the sting will go away," said the doctor, still kneading my stomach.
I did, and he was right. The sting lift my eyelids and my eyeballs caught on fire.
"Will you tell me why you're trying to hurt me?"

"Will you tell me why you're trying to burn my eyes out?" I demanded, blinking wildly.
"I'm going to test your eye pressure. The liquid is to deaden the feeling." he said. "Now stare at the ceiling and don't blink."
He came at me with a black metal object. I stared and clutched at the nurses hand.
"Don't fret," she said, "nobody's ever gone out of here blinded."
"There's a first time for everything." I said hoarsely.

"Now for the thyroid," he said, seizing my throat in a strangulation hold. "I think you'd better have a blood test to make sure it's okay."
"Blood test? With a needle?" I show my true cowardly colors with needles.
He nodded. "With a needle."
I stifled a cry. "In the throat?"
Of course not. In the arm. Put your clothes on. I'll see you in the office."

Spacemen Band Back at Disneyland for Summer
For a new jazz combo that has hardly been on the boards for a year, the Spacemen in Disneyland have launched themselves to a kind of musical orbit.
For more than five years Tony Anderson and Johnnymidt have been members of the Disneyland Band. Last summer they wrote some unique arrangements, gathered four artists for a small band who took over the Disneyland Ice Bar as the Spacemen. It summer end, they found kings during the winter in per clubs, found time to write Surfer's Stomp" a twister's night, and record it for an album.
Now they're back in Disneyland for the summer as part of the big cast that appears every night in Disneyland Afterkick biggest nighttime show in the Southland. Cast includes five dance bands, Tahitian shows, singing groups, guest vocalists, fireworks show, and special guest bands like Harry James set to appear July 28, 27 and 28.
With all their nighttime work, Johnny and Sonny maintain their day work with the Disneyland Band. "Sure it's long hours," says Johnny, 'but who cares as long as we're making music."
Sonny plays the vibes for the Spacemen, while Johnny lips anything with a reed from sax to clarinet. Eddie Erickson handles bass; Gary Howland, drums Walt Malzahn, trombone; and Jimmy Seitzinger, trumpet.
This year Kay Bell, formerly one of the Bell Sisters, joined the Spacemen. When this red headed bombshell rips out "Kansas City Here I Come," the rocket in Tomorrowland starts steaming and thumping on its launching pad.
