Western High Drama Department Gets Thespian Society Charter
Western High School’s drama department recently received its charter as a member of the National Thespian Society. The organization serves to promote better drama in the secondary schools. There are over 411,000 members of the National Thespian Society in the United States and abroad.
There will be 21 charter members, selected from those students who have done outstanding work in the field of drama.
These include LaVonne Oakley, Kerry Roland, Susan Etheridge, Jim Gudath, Larry Hull, Lee Lennett, Dianne Mead, Sandra Klein, Sharoyn Faus, Stephanie Nemcik, Tak Morimoto, Carol Straford, Aris Sherwood, Max Klein, foreign exchange student Marlise Paucker of Switzerland, Lois Bogan, Wendy Deacon, Eraina Lagana, Sherri Oliphant, Colleen Williams, and Dennis Barker.
A formal initiation ceremony will be held on the evening of Tuesday, June 12. Sponsor Eugene Mitch and English department chairman Luella Rodgers will install the new members.
After the ceremony the group will motor to Los Angeles where they will see a special sneak preview performance of the new stage comedy hit Mary, Mary at the Biltmore Theatre.

Construction of a $7-million Saturn A-S II assembly and test facility will get underway early this summer at Seal Beach, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and North American Association Inc. announced this week.
The new facility, to be completed 18 months after start of construction, will consist of five buildings and a structural static fixture. It will utilize 35 tons on the site of the U.S. Naval Ammunition and Net Depot, or a "use agreement" between NASA and the U.S. Navy.

Electric Group Slates Workshop
The Orange County chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association will hold a two-day educational workshop at the Charter House Hotel today and tomorrow, according to Warren Maxwell, manager.
Robert Reed of Barr Lumber Co. spoke to the chapter on "The World of Credit" at Monday night's (May 28) regular monthly meeting.
Little League Luau
The Murphy Ranch Little League of East Whittier will hold a fund-raising hau-dance Saturday night (June 2) at the Charter House Hotel in Anaheim.
The league is in its fourth year and fields 275 boys in eight major, six minor and four pee wee leagues, according to Al Griffith, president.
The luau is being sponsored by the league's women auxiliary. Aiding Mrs. John Lovevenguth in the planning are cochairmen Mrs. Robert Cranmer and Mrs. Ray Conwell.
Ice Age To Be In Art Display
Photographs, charts and drawings combine to tell a graphic story of mountains and glaciers in a June exhibit at the Charles W. Bowers Memorial Museum, Santa Anas.
The exhibit of the ice age in California, entitled "Look to the Mountains," the exhibit depicts the story of the formation of the Sierra Nevada ranges. The great role of glaciation is emphasized.
