Harbor, Anaheim, Wednesday through Sunday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Ph Urges Sonic Boom Ban In protest against disturbance and frightening of heavily-populated communities, U. S. Senator Thomas H. Kuchel of Anaheim has urged Defense Secretary McNamara to direct "service-wide consideration" of measures to cut down incidents of "sonic booms" from high-flying military aircraft. The senior California senator noted that complaints have reached him periodically for many years and from various sections of California where the public has been alarmed and inconvenienced when airplanes penetrate the sound barrier. His letter to the Defense Secretary was prompted by protests that such incidents occur "almost daily" at the Catalina Island resort community of Avalon. By irrigating in the day, you lose from 40 percent to 70 percent of the water by evaporation, depending upon the temperature during the warm spring and summer days. So, in order to get the full benefit from your watering, do your sprinkling any time after 7 p.m. and up to 8:30 a.m. Lenain adds that in this area, ½ inch of water is the proper amount to put on your lawn. The water level can be measured by placing an open coffee can in a position so that the water from the sprinkler will fall in the can. More than ½ inch of water at one sprinkling usually results in run-off and wasted water. 1941 was the wettest year in Anaheim's history, according to Water Superintendent Gus Lenain. During the 1941 season, 33.53 inches of rain fell in the wet, muddy town. Last year only 3.85 inches of rain fell to set a new low.record. "Even though 1961 was the dryest year in Anaheim's history", states Lenain, "water waste was the highest." "We notice that people are already wasting water this year," Harbor, Anaheim, open 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Phone Western Ghost Town, Buena Park, open m. Phone LA 2-1131. All children in the Orange County Public Schools from kindergarten through high school, are eligible to submit their work. Mrs. Michelle LeGrand, chairman of the exhibit, and Mary Jane Haden, art consultant for the Orange County Public Schools, have both urged that teachers and students make preparations to have their entries matted and ready for submission on the May 28th date. Judging day has been set for June 12th. The three judges selected are all art professors familiar with children's art and therefore eminently qualified to choose the approximately 250 paintings and drawings that will make up the children's exhibit at the Festival. Last year over 3000 entries were made and since an even greater response is expected this year the judges should have a busy time before the opening of the Festival. One of the criteria for accepting work to be hung is that it be a genuine creative expression of the child's personal feelings and not something that has been dutifully copied or reproduced by someone else's suggestion. In this way the children's work will be given adult status and should be more interesting to view. Funeral Held for Former Resident Funeral services for Mrs. Alma G.
