Orange County Homes
Top State in TV Sets
More California households have television sets than telephones, according to Maurice I. Gershonson, chief division of Labor Statistics and Research of the California Department of Industrial Relations.
And Orange County tops the state with 94 percent of all occupied housing units having TV. Fifteen percent in Orange County have two or more sets. The county, however, was below the state average in air conditioners.
Eighty-nine percent of all state housing units (4,411,587) have televisions while 83 percent have telephones (4,130,218). Eleven percent of the units have 2 or more television sets.
These facts were revealed in statistics for California just released by the U.S. Bureau of the Census based on the 1960 Census of Housing.
Gershenson, who is a member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Bureau of the Census, said that more than two-thirds of all households in California have clothes washing machines, but only 15 per cent have gas or electric dryers.
One out of every 6 housing units in the State has a home freezer and nearly 1 out of 10 has air conditioning equipment.
Eighty-four percent of all California housing units have automobiles available and 31 percent have 2 or more cars.
Except for air conditioning equipment, Orange County proportions, were above State averages:
94 percent of all occupied housing units have television sets; 15 percent have 2 or more sets.
The 27th annual Festival of Arts will be held this year from July 14 to Aug. 12 in Laguna Beach.
Reservations for the nationally famous Pageant of the Master's, which broke all records last year in rapid total sell-out, are pouring in an unprecedented rate.
Although the stuffing and mailing of the Festival brochures which contain mail order blanks and program notes just began on Monday, over 10,000 requests for reserved seats have been received from all parts of the city.
Annually some 100,000 tour from all over the United States and foreign countries tend this spectacle.
Due to the tremendous demand for tickets, the Festival management is processing mail on earlier than in previous years and all indications point to another highly successful season.

Rec Department's Fantasyhouse Attracts City's Kids to Parks
The youngsters who play at Loara Park feel they have finally met their match — in a house.
The fantasy playhouses, of four purchased by the heim Park and Recreation partment, weigh 2000 pounds are made of reinforced concrete and galvanized steel. The fourth house is at the Peter Marsh Parksite.
The size of the playhouses is 6½ feet wide by 6½ feet high and according to park development coordinator, Dick Kammer, "should stand for quite some time."
Kamphefner said that originally six units were purchased from the Park budget of 1965 and the remaining two will be placed in a new park site within the next few months.
Concerning the houses they selves, Kamphefner said, are quite sure these are the 'fantasy playhouses' to be stalled in Orange County. They are sculptured forms which should invite intense interest and imaginative play by the youthers."
As far as its regular custom, Kamphefner stated that the children who enjoy it most range from 3-13 years of age and be found running in and out about 3 p.m. every day.
When questioned on the extreme ruggedness and destructibility, Kamphefner said: "The house is a mountain stone." But added, "If there is weak spot — the kids will find it!"

A "stitch in time may save nine" but efficiency may save your life.
The Anaheim Police and Fire Departments are geared to emergencies. But they need help. And they need that help when you phone.
When you phone the Anaheim Police Department at KEystone 3-3131, you are greeted by the operator. She knows the departments and personnel, she is trained to direct your call to the correct person.
But—and this is where efficiency can bog down—you tell her what type of service you need.
If it is an emergency, tell her "I wish to report a theft."
"There's a burglar in the garage" or that you want to report an auto collision.
She then can quickly connect you with the desk sergeant or other officer who will answer your request efficiently and promptly, advises Police Charge Mark A. Stephenson.
Fire service is basically the same as your first contact. KEystone 3-1303 is the switch board operator. State clean and quickly the problem, such as "My garage is on fire." There has been a cave-in and we need a rescue crew."
"A mere 30 seconds in efficiency can mean the difference between life and death," said Fire Chief Stringer.
Services within the Anaheim City Hall complex are made. But, once again, the procedure is similar. When calling the Office Hall at PRospect 6-0110, tell the operator concisely what department you seek.
It all adds up to greater efficiency for the City Anaheim.
