SIDELIGHTS Driver Gets Potato Test By Doris Lee The family gave me a driver-personality test this week. It was probably inspired by the fact that I've had a series of mishaps with the car lately. I was hit from the rear, I had a flat tire, I got a ticket for overtime parking and ran into an iron post, all in the space of a month. "There's something wrong with you," they told me. "You're turning into a typical woman driver." The thought terrified me. I always pride myself on being unique in everything, especially driving. So I leaped at the opportunity to take the driver-personality test. The questions probe into your personality to see how effects your driving. There are five possible answers: "very much like me," "somewhat like me," "unlike me" and "very much unlike me." The first statement got me in double right away. It read, "I end it hard to keep my mind on task or job." To which I answered promptly, "Unlike me." "Hold it," said Charlie. "Now it's be honest." "I am honest," I said. "I have one-track mind." "I'll say! And it's never on the right track." "For instance?" "Wait a minute," said Charlie. "Since when don't we give you credit for anything?" "Yeah," said Tony. "Don't we always give you credit for burning the potatoes?" "And for forgetting the Worcestershire sauce?" put in Linda. The next one was, "There are times when it seems that everyone's against me." "And how!" I cried. "Next," said Linda. "'I am generally free from worry about possible misfortunes.'" It's Fate "I believe in predestination." I said. "If the potatoes are going to burn, they're going to burn. I'll take the full load on that." "I very often seek the advice of others,'" quoted Linda. "Sure, I do." "That's a bare-face lie," cured Charlie. "If you did, you wouldn't always be in hot water." "Yeah, the potatoes would instead," said Tony. "How many times have I told you to add more water?" "And about the Worcestershire sauce," said Linda. "All you have to do is consult me before leaving for the store." "Next question," said Charlie. "I usually feel that life is worthwhile.'" 2½ Thousand At Open Bowl The World Open Classic, $141 150-guaranteed tournament now in progress at La Habra "300" Bow has passed the 2,500 mark in entry reservations, according to Maxie Kosof, director of the 8th annual event. The tournament opened a 16-day run March 24 and should eas The first statement got me in trouble right away. It read, "I and it hard to keep my mind on task or job." To which I answered promptly, "Unlike me." "Hold it," said Charlie. "Now it's be honest." "I am honest," I said. "I have one-track mind." "I'll say! And it's never on the right track." "For instance?" "For instance, when you're cooking, the potatoes always burn." Applesauce "Yes," said Linda, "and when you're shopping you never think to buy Worcestershire sauce, and you keep buying tomato sauce even though we're overstocked." "All right, all right," I said, change it to "very much like me." "Second question," said Linda. My relatives find more fault with me than they should." "Very much like me," I said with feeling. You're exaggerating," she said, "but we'll let it go. Next: I nearly always receive all the credit that is coming to me for the things I do." "Unlike me," I said. New Instructor Lt. Col. George B. Supervisors Approve City Construction The Board of Supervisors approved the application of the City of Anaheim on March 27, to construct a 24-foot detour on an unnamed forty-foot wide dedicated roadway connecting La Palma Ave. and White Star Ave. at approximately Red Gum St. in the East Anaheim area. This County roadway is now unimproved and nonmaintained. The City of Anaheim will be constructing a major water transmission line in La Palma Ave. between Jefferson S' and White Star Ave. in the immediate future. Due to the development in the northeast area the traffic on La Palma Ave. is exceedingly heavy during the peak hours and it is critical that La Palma Ave. be available to the traffic wherever possible. E. F. Schmuck Marks Events Silver anniversaries don't often come in pairs, but they did recently in the case of Anaheim man Edward F. Schmuck, when he marked his 25th anniversary with Bank of America only a few days after celebrating a quarter century of married life with his wife, Helen. Schmuck retired from the bank last week. Weeds are not only menacing, but they also create a definite fire hazard. So, every year at this time the Public Works Department eliminates this problem. Here's how to done: City Sanitation Inspectors check each parcel of property in Anaheim to see if a condition exists. If there are weeds on a property, the cost runs close to $15.00 for the average size lot. The property owner may pay this bill directly to the City or the charge will be added to his property tax bill. Public Works Director Thompson Piersall adds that the posting chore began last week. The Inspectors are beginning at the West City Limits working easily. All of the property, with weed problem, will be posted in a proximately three weeks. Last year over 500 acres of weeds were abated both by Contractors and private contractors. Open Bowling Classic World Open Classic, $141. guaranteed tournament now in Las Vegas at La Habra "300" Bowl, passed the 2,500 mark in reservations, according to Kosof, director of the 8th event.
