"The Music Man" on June 19 gets the biggest blast off ever accorded a picture when 12,000 high school bandsmen in 121 bands from 30 states salute the Warner film at the Maso City, Ia., Music Man band festival.
Laurence Harvey's independent company will star him in "The Moor of Venice." based on Shakespeare's "Othello."
"My Fair Lady," which Warber Bros. will film, is still setting stage records, starting its seventh year of Broadway March 15.

Xi Eta Eta Chapter Has Crazy Hat Party
A Crazy Hat Party highlighted the regular meeting of Xi Eta Eta Chapter at the home of Mrs. James Tegler. Dinner was prepared by Mrs. David Collins and served by the social committee. Prizes were won by Mrs. Richard Howard, Mrs. David Collins and Mrs. Mary Calvet.
A program was presented by Mrs. Vern Porter in which she asked each member to give a one-minute talk on a well-known personality.
An open meeting will be held April 24 for all prospective exemplars. Order of the Rose will be given May 10 to Mrs. Don Henry by the N.O.C.C. Council.
New members were welcomed to the Chapter by the president. Members attending were: Mrs. David Collins, Mrs. Mary Calvet, Mrs. Wm. Box, Mrs. Richard Howard, Mrs. Robert Smith, Mrs. Richard Davis, Mrs. Don Nelson, Mrs. James Tegler, Mrs. Nap Valentine, Mrs. James Ames, Mrs. Phillip Long, Mrs. Jack Rae, Mrs. Vern Porter, and Mrs. James Farrington and Mrs. Don Henry.

THINGS TO SEEN IN SOUTHLAND
Activities in the Southland center around sports this week, but as usual there is such a variety that each resident or visitor in the area can find something to suit his taste. Here is the calendar of events in the area for the period Mar. 29 through April 8 as compiled by the Automobile Club of Southern California.
BURBANK: Annual Horse Show, presented by the Co-Lagre Riding Club, is Apr. 7 and 8 in the Pickwick Arena. Western Events, hunter-jumper and English events are featured.
CLAREMONT: "Amigos de Michoacan" is the current P ad u a Hills Theater attractions through Apr. 14.
DEL MAR: Southern California Jumping Frog Contest is held at the fair grounds Apr. 8. Event features frog jumping contest, dog show, clown acts and judo show.

PATRICIA SAWYER, mother of three, is seeking the title of "the best all-ground woman driver in the country." The comely 62-year-old widow of Hemet, is now practicing for her third trip as a driver in the Mobil Economy Run from Los Angeles to Detroit, March 31-April 5. She won her clips in the fuel contest lost spring, averaging 29 miles-per-gallon in a compact car and beating 12 other male and female drivers in her division. Her husband was scheduled to be her co-driver. But he was one of the pilots killed in the Dec., 1960, mid-air collision over New York City.

Singers are still being accepted varied selection of folk tunes.

Singers are still being accepted by audition, in a recently formed Orange County choral group under the direction of James S. Vail, director of choral activities at Santa Ana College.
The repertoire now in rehearsal includes the works of Mozart, Haydn and Brahms, as well as a varied selection of folk tunes.
The choir rehearses every Monday night at 8 p.m. at the Lampson Elementary School on Lampson Ave., just west of Dale Ave. in Garden Grove.
Before joining the SAC staff, Vail was chairman of the music department at Westminster College, Salt Lake City.
Interested singers are invited to call Vail at KI 3-5235 or to attend the next rehearsal.
Scenic Highways Proposal Studied
Study of Stale proposals for a statewide system of scenic highways will be made by a special subcommittee of the California State Chamber of Commerce, according to F. W. Tarr, Chairman, Statewide Highway Committee.
A preliminary report by the state contains recommendations for the development and adoption of "appropriate policies, procedures and criteria to assure adequate consideration of scenic and aesthetic values in continuing highway location and design process."
Farr said the Chamber subcommittee will study the proposed recommendations, which include highway design and location, right-of-way acquisition, roadside rest facilities, and control of development in scenic corridors.

Spencer Heath's Views Recorded
Eleven Santa Ana College professors have teamed to preserve on tape recordings the philosophy, reminiscing and knowledge of Spencer Heath, 86-year-old bearded inventor - attorney-engineer-scholar, best known for his invention of the variable pitch propeller.
Heath winters in Santa Ana and actively visits college compuses, industrial plants, scholarly sessions and friends to pursue his penchant for conversation on a variety of topics. Respecting his vast fund of knowledge, his Santa Ana College friends persuaded him to be interviewed in a series of discussions so that his views would be preserved for students and scholars of today and the future.

Chamber music programs are presented each Sunday at 3 p.m.

"Northwest Indian Art" is exhibition on display at Municipal Art Gallery, Barnsdall Park, current through Apr. 15.

Junior Ebell Club of members enjoyed a short children's fashions at the general meeting. Spring for the younger set were club members and more their children. The young included: Vicki Pressley, Sliff Kim Cook, Pam Candler Bell, Brent Wiard Randi Pressel, Judi Bshaye Arnold.

New Book Out on Western Politics
California seems destined to become the national axis of the two major political parties, Dr. Topton J. Anderson, professor of political science at the University of Southern California, says in a new book, "Western Politics" of which he is one of 14 co-authors.
The anticipated addition of eight electoral votes due to the 1980 census will make California's total of 40 x prize in the presidential race second only to New York's estimated $22, the USC professor says in a chapter on "California: Enigma of National Politics."
Political leaders look forward with confidence that California will assume first place after 1970. Dr. Anderson says.
Holly Park Race Calendar Release
Hollywood Park's 1962 racing calendar for the 55-day meeting, May 9 to July 23, came off the presses today and is now available to the public.
The calendar, in full color, lists all 58 Hollypark stakes for which total prize money of $1,240,000 is being offered.
The stakes, which will start with the $20,000 added Hollywood Premiere for sprinters on opening day and end with the $75,000 added Sunset Handicap for routers on the final day, include four $190,000 features, the Hollywood Juvenile Championship for two-year-olds, Hollywood Derby for three-year-olds and The Californian and Hollywood Gold Cup for the older handicap stars.
Planist List in April 8 Recital
Planist Eugene List will be presented in recital on Sunday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in the College Auditorium as the final music event in the current Chapman College Artist Lecture Series.
Included on the program will be the Sonata in B flat minor and Three Preludes by Chepin, the Sonata in G minor by Schumann, and the "Little Fugue in G minor by Bach.
He will also play "The Banana Tree" by the early nineteenth century American composer Louis Gottschalk, "Country Gardens" by Percy Graingar, "Rag Time Bass" by Virgil Thomson, and the Toccata from Maurice Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperia."

Junior Ebell Club of Anaheim members enjoyed a showing of children's fashions at the March general meeting. Spring fashions for the younger set were made by club members and modeled by their children.
