Orange County State To Be in Regional Basketball Playoffs Orange County State College, in its second season of intercollegiate basketball, has been invited to represent the independent teams of District Three in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics regional playoffs. The Titans will meet the University of Redlands in a best two-out-of-three game playoff for the right to represent this District in the national tournament in Kansas City. Miss. on Mar 12-17. The announcement of the invitation and its acceptance came this morning from the office of Ernest A. Becker, dean of students, and director of athletics. Orange County State and Redlands will play the first game of the playoff on Friday, Mar. 2, at Fulkerton Junior College. The second game will be played the following night, Mar. 3, on a court to be chosen by the University of Redlands, presumably the gymnasium on their campus. A third and deciding game, if necessary, will be played at a court of Redlands' choosing. It was disclosed by George Sage, chairman of the District Three selection committee. Cal Western University of San Diego was also in contention for the invitation but Orange State, on the strength of two wins over the Westerners, was given the bid. Dean Fowler, regional manager, sales administration, General Electric Company, and president of Junior Achievement in Southern California. "Junior Achievement companies pay an 'income tax' on their profits each year", explained Fowler, "and this money is put into a special fund used for scholarships to the youngsters." Selected applicants will be judged by a scholarship committee of leading southland business executives. Awards will be made on the basis of business experience, knowledge of the American system of private enterprise, school record, and Junior presented in Lobero Theater, 8:30 p.m., Feb. 25. Youngsters decorate floats for "Great Inventions" parade beginning at 10 a.m. Achievement participation. Breakdown of awards will be: 5 scholarships of $100 each, 4 scholarships of $200, 3 scholarships of $300, 2 of $400 each, 1 of $50 and 1 of $700. Fowler explained that these awards are in addition to more than $5,000 in scholarships available through JA participation on a national and regional basis. Winners will be named at JA's Future Unlimited Banquet in May.
