NOTES FROM THE GALLERY
BOSTAND D. KELLY, CURATOR
A new note of interest wasjected into the exhibit which will be shown at the Art Gallery through Feb. 28.
Robert E. Wood’s exciting paintings, which are done in various media, were enhanced by setting of furniture, draperies, carpets, swatches, and ornaments selected by Gilbert Smith, a partner of Robert Baker Interiors of Redlands and Riverside.
Wood’s pictures are executed in bold, free style, using the vivid dashing colors, so popular in the day’s vogue and admirably suited for hanging in the house of the day whether it is brand new or renovated to the modern use of color.
Visitors to the Gallery Team hosted by the Democratic Women’s Club, wandered through the exhibit mentally reviewing the decor of their own living room and hesitating between the choices of bittersweet tourquois or striking blacks and whites.
In the Lower Gallery, the paintings of Walter Wellhouse and Robert Uecker drew a fine crowd. Wellhouse, a wonderfully trained man, has a versatile brush for portraits, landscapes, and still life. Uecker, who has been dedicated to art since childhood, shows bold techniques and sensitivity in his work.
In spite of the inclement weather, the series of 12 lectures offered by university extension, on the University of California opened the evening of Feb. 8 with a large crowd.

Goulash-Twist
New Twin Dance
A standoff draw was the opinion of the crowd that swarmed to Le Crazy Horse on Sunset Strip last Wednesday evening to see the showdown between KMPC Roger Carroll's "Goulash" and Donnie Brooks' "Twist", and as a result, a new dance has been created — it is appropriately named the "Goulash-Twist".
Le Crazy Horse ringsiders Cesar Romero, June Wilkinson, Peter Graves, Sonja Henie and many others immediately joined in the festivities and the joint rocked well into the night.
Carroll and Brooks are coordinating personal appearances and will co-introduce the latest dance sensation throughout the country.

In spite of the indefentive weather, the series of 12 lectures of fered by university extension, of the University of California opened the evening of Feb. 8 with a large crowd.
Professor Friedman, breathless from a four-hour difficult drive on the freeway, lectured on "Art in Travel."
These lectures, entitled "Back ground of World Arts and Culture in Travel in Europe" are attracting great attention in this area.
Laguna Beach citizens" are great travelers and the majority travel because of their interest in the arts.
The subject matter will explore the main facets of world art and will be richly illustrated with many fine slides. These talks will give college credit if desired, and may be attended for the following prices: two units of college credit for $30.00; 12 lectures for $24; six lectures for $12; and a single attendance for $2.50.
Those who wish to equip themself mentally for world trips have a fine opportunity to do so through these lectures. It is seldom that anyone will find at his front door such a staff of widely traveled specialists in the arts; ready to present a broad view of the different cultural and artistic traditions of western heritage.
The following member artists of our Association were chosen to exhibit at the First Annual Exhibit of the American Institute of Fine Arts at the Quinn Gallery in Los Angeles: William Willheim, Rosalie Bowen Love, Reynold Brown, Arden Von Dewitz, Orrin White, Seymour Thomas, Minna Benz Hoffman, Thelma Cardin, Venetia Eples, Arthur Beaumont, Fritz Kocher, Clause Parsons, Segei Bongart, Marjorie Adams, William Darling, Jean Keuterickx, Rollin Moulton, Jr., Lenard Kester, Mildred Schoffield, Vivian Goddard, Fern Gary, Daphne Huntington, and Joseph Portanova.

Disneyland in 7 M
A two-year expansion program involving an expenditure of $7 million for new attractions at Disneyland — including a complete new Adventureland area opening next Summer — has been announced by officials at Walt Disney's Anaheim Park.
The development, one of the biggest projects undertaken at Disneyland since its opening in 1955, is now underway in the Adventureland and Frontierland areas.
"Walt Disney and his staff have been planning and developing these attractions for several years," the Disneyland announcement said.
The 1962 additions—opening in June — will be concentrated in Adventureland, and will feature a new and enlarged Jungle River Cruise, the "world's largest" Tree House, a three-restaurant complex to be operated by the nationally known Stouffer's company, and a "Safari Shooting Gallery".
A new "fun theme" will be introduced in the long-popular Jungle River Cruise, highlighting the "bathing pool" of nearly two dozen Indian elephants. All life-size and fully animated, they'll frolic and playfully squirt trunks full of water at unwary jungle animals and "explorers." Both "baby elephants" and their giant-size parents will participate in the bathing, squirting, scratching and splashing.
Another section of the jungle safari will re-create the African Veldt, where lions, tigers, zebras, jackals, laughing hyenas, giraffes and many other animals will bring this famous region of the African continent to life, and "big game hunters" will be seen falling into the pitfalls of jungle exploration.
The "world's largest" Tree House, towering 70-feet above the jungle, will be reminiscent of the one in Walt Disney's motion picture "Swiss Family Robinson."
Spreading its branches 85-feet in width, the "tree house" will include three separate "homes" at different levels and offer a panoramic view over much of Disneyland. Thousands of colorful pink leaves will "grow" on the tree, as will bright blooming orchids.
Nearby, "Souffer's in Disneyland" will provide three separate and distinctive dining places this summer, including Disneyland's first "by reservation only" restaurant. Referred to as "The Bird Room", it will include a complete dinner show that literally put on "by the birds" — an exotic collection of animated birds on kinds that sing, talk and "act."
Other sections of Stouffer's taurants will include both American and European kitchens, a Tahitian Terrace overlooking Adventureland with dancing live entertainment complementing the food.
The "safari Shooting Galleys will be a custom, one of a kind creation utilizing special effects and designs." "Hunters" will be at animated elephants, crocodiles tropical birds, lions, hippos and variety of other jungle beasts.
Also under construction are tions of attractions which open in 1963, including "New leans Square", the Haunted Mansion, and the Blue Bayou Marquee unique "Thieves Market." All supporting roles
