A LOVELIER YOU
By Mary Sue Miller
PERFECT PARTY DRESSING. Every lovely hopes to look her best on gala evenings. But naturally! Is there a lass or lady; though, who has not discovered on some occasion that there can be a wide gulf between the wish and the deed? Very unsettling it is, too!
To avoid future slip-ups, try this recipe for perfect party dressing:

To avoid future slip-ups, try this recipe for perfect party dressing:
Several days before an occasion, make a thorough check of the costume you intend to wear, down to the last detail — lingerie, stockings, jewelry, purse, gloves. Then refurbish needy items, instanter!
When you are wearing a new dress, hold a tryout. Put on the works — lingerie, dress, accessories and make-up. After the “ball,” recheck the costume and immediately attend to necessary repairs.
Be forehanded, moreover, about your hair and manicure. Leaving either to the last minute most often results in a bungle or a rush.
So prepared, you are halfway to a charming appearance. Dressing techniques account for the other half. Allow thirty minutes to dress, no less and perhaps a little more. But remember that neither dawdling nor rushing produces the finish you're after. It is achieved only by an efficient routine, such as this one:
1. Take a leisurely bath and cologne rubdown.
2. Don all clothing except dress.
3. Arrange hair and cap it in a net.
4. Make-up, and review the effect in a strong light.
5. Slip into dress and jewelry.
6. Remove net.
7. Inspect head-to-toe appearance from all angles.
Parfait — that's you!

Piecing Skirts Requires Care
by patricia scott
Most of us agree that circular skirts are flattering on many men. In addition to being comfortable, they drape beautifully most fabrics. But, if you're piecing a full circle skirt, it can be cut from the fabric with piecing.
Adding a piece on the wrong pin or mismatching a print is all to the appearance of a garment — and is the surest sign home made" or "cheap ready wear."
The method for doing this pieciness is not complicated, but it must be done carefully. By the use these same rules if you short of fabric for other parts garment and have to add a tie.
Always piece along the grain line and match designs and naps.
2. Cut out the entire garment and select the piece from the scraps. If possible, select a piece with selvage, because it has a good firm edge and it will not be necessary to finish the seams.
To Piece A Solid Color (Figure 1):
1. Place the straight grain edges or selvage edges right sides together. Place pins along the edges, up and down (parallel to the edge).
2. Spread the piecing out flat and place the pattern on the garment again. Then, cut the piece; making the skirt complete.
3. Remove the pattern, stitch the pieced seam, and press. If the piece has a selvage edge, clip the selvage at intervals so that it will not pull. Press seam open.
If the selvage edges were not joined, trim the seam allowance and press the seam open.
To Piece A Printed Fabric (Figure 2):
1. The edge of the skirt to be pieced must fall on a selvage or should be cut along a thread.
2. Fold under a seam allowance on the skirt and on the right side. Slide a scrap of the printed fabric right side up under this folded edge until both the printed Miss Scott is always glad to hear from her readers, and whenever possible will use their questions in her column, but because of the great volume of mail received daily, she cannot answer individual letters.
Design Kitchen For Most women don't realize that architects and builders plan the kitchen with special care until they start working in a remodelling and the grain match.
3. When the skirt and the piece match perfectly, pin together with pins at right angles to the folded edge, as shown. Place the pattern on the skirt again, and cut around the piecing to complete the skirt.
4. Since you won't want the printed design to slip off even a tiny bit, you'll have to slip-baste the skirt and piece together along the folded edge.
5. Now turn the skirt to the wrong side and stitch the skirt and piece together with a plain seam. If you joined the selvage edges together, clip them at intervals to avoid pulling and press seam open. If the selvage edges were not used, trim the seam allowances. Press the seam open.

eled one with a poor layout. Too often badly organized kitchens are the result of plans made by homeowners who have not consulted with a lumber dealer or contractor.
The key to good planning in a kitchen is the work center, which consists of three main areas. These are the refrigerator and mixing center, sink and clean-up center, and range and serving center.
Should Form Triangle
For best results, these three areas should be in a working triangle. The combined length of the three sides of the triangle should not be more than 22 feet. It is easy to check your own kitchen layout or a proposed re-modeling plan with this formula.
Keeping the work center within this triangle concentrates activity and saves the homemaker many steps in the course of the day. The rest of the kitchen also should be designed to save time and energy. Appliances should be big enough to service the family and situated so that they are easy to use and clean.
Maintenance of kitchen walls and ceilings also can be a backbreaking chore if the proper materials are not selected. Heat moisture and grease will soon ruin most surfaces.
