St. Jude Guild Holds Annual Patroness Tea
"The true spirit of Christmas" awaited guests at the eighth annual St. Jude Hospital Guild Patroness Tea at the Anaheim Assistance League Clubhouse.
Table and room decorations, background music, and gifts for the honored patroness members reflected the theme of this year's affair. A gold and white color scheme was carried out in the decorations which included a white flocked tree with gold ornaments. Another decorative highlight was a tableau of three wise men on the tea table made by provisional Mrs. P. J. Ovando.
Tea chairmen included Mrs. John Gardner, Mrs. Leon Montgomery, Mrs. Robert Erickson, Mrs. W. F. Hafstrom and Mrs. P. J. Ovando.
Former presidents of the Guild poured at the tea table. They included Mmes. P. J. Weisel, R. F. Guthrie, Henry Pullman, Leonard Matson, Robert Sargent, Tom Eadington, and Miss Marcelina Arroues. Receiving guests was Mrs. Richard Dishman, president, and other Guild officers.
Individual favors were given to patroness members as a "thank you" for their support during the year.
In other activity in the Guild this week, board members learned that the recent Gift-O-Rama netted $2,285 which will be combined with proceeds from other fund raising activities for the purchase of a mobile unit for the hospital surgery w and a donation to the build fund.
Honored at the board meet this week was Miss Babette S who has completed 1,000 hours volunteer service. Three professional members, Mmes. Fr Le Forgeais, Leon Montgomery and Paul Sutton, have completed 100 hours service for their American Hospital Association pin.
Electric Company Pays 2½ Million County Tax Bill
Southern California Edison Company, one of Orange County's biggest single taxpayers, sent its check for $2,660,735 Monday as the first installment of local property taxes for 182.
Joseph A. Long, Edison district manager, said that this check together with the second installment which will be paid April will bring the total of property taxes paid by Edison in county to $5,491,887.21.
About half of the money the electric company pays to the county goes directly toward support of local public schools Long pointed out.

Jimmy played three seasons for Fullerton High School, starring as an outfielder, first baseman and third baseman. He was selected for Most Valuable Player honors in his senior year, batting .450.
An outfielder in American Legion play with a .400-plus average. Jimmy also made his debut as a catcher for the Dodger Rookies, batting .444.
He lettered in football as well as baseball at Fullerton and is currently attending Fullerton Junior College. He measures 5-11, weighs 185 pounds and will be nineteen years old in February.
He was signed to an Omaha Dodgers contract for an undisclosed bonus.

"Late year, we paid to all levels government a shopping $81.956, amounting to 27 cents every dollar paid by our customers for their electric service."

Jack E. Brown, seaman apprentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett R. Brown of 1224 Haven Dr., Anaheim, is serving at the headquarters of the Pacific Missile Range, Point Mugu, Calif.
The range, under the management control of the Navy, provides support facilities for the armed services and government agencies for launching, tracking and collecting data in guided missiles.
Anaheim, completed the officer orientation course at The Infantry School, Fort Benning, Ga., Nov. 30.
The course is designed to familiarize newly-commissioned officers with the duties and responsibilities of an infantry unit commander. The Infantry School constantly prepares a better infantry for our Army by training and developing the leadership degree in 1958 and an L.L.B. degree in 1961 from the University of California Berkeley.
Army Pvt. John M. McBurney, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. John T. McBurney, 2230 Briarvale ave., Anaheim, completed the field artillery basic course at The Artillery and Missile Center, Fort Sill, Okla., Dec. 1.
McBurney, 2230 Briarvale Ave., as a gun or howitzer crewman. He received instruction in communications ammunition handling and storage and the use and care of field artillery guns, howitzers and heavy machine guns.
