Wright About Fashion Helpful Hints For the Holidays By OLLIE WRIGHT Party time means new clothes, new hairdos, and maybe a daring new shade of fingernail polish. If you want to look special for a certain dinner, a little different for the formal dance, spectacular New Year's Eve, perhaps a few of the following tips will help. 1. Wear a printed wool for informal parties instead of a solid-colored one. Mine is predominantly red and green and is gay and festive. It's inevitable the most unusual dress in the room. 2. I own a pale blue formal from last year. To give contrast, I bought a huge satin stole of deep green. Dramatize your formal in the same way, with a stole in an off-beat color instead of the usual matching or blending ones. 3. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, wear something glittery (not in your hair). I have an off-white sweater all embroidered with paillettes and plan to wear it over a pale beige chiffon dress. It goes with many other dresses, too. Sweaters of this type can be expensive, but many are available at reasonable prices. 4. Wear pale stockings. Dark ones are out! 5. Don't wear cotton gloves in the winter, particularly when you are dressed up. Instead wear kid or suede. 6. If you buy a bright silk dress and plan to dye shoes to match, select a color that can be worn with other dresses too. Dyed-to-match shoes are less extravagant this way. Question and Answers "Dear Miss Ollie: What do you do with a dramatic stole if you live in a cold climate and have to wear a coat? — Jane" Dear Jane: Fold the stole and carry it with your purse. GETZ, ALKENS. MANNING & MURPHY 6425 Wilshire Boulevard Los Angeles 48, California Attorneys Question and Answers "Dear Miss Ollie: What do you do with a dramatic stole if you live in a cold climate and have to wear a coat? — Jane" Dear Jane: Fold the stole and carry it with your purse. When you arrive at your destination, go to the powder room, remove your coat, drape the stole around your shoulders, and make your second entrance the grand one. "Dear Miss Ollie: I have a sat-in evening dress and want to dye shoes to match. What fabric should I use? — E. J." Dear E. J.: With silk or satin dresses for evening I recommend only silk or satin shoes. Silk is dull-surfaced and looks just as beautiful as matching satin. Linen shoes, however, are more suitable for daytime wear. "Dear Miss Ollie: I have a rhynestone necklace I love, but my husband can't stand it. How can I wear it without having him yell at me to take it off?—Ellen" Dear Ellen: I frankly go along with your husband, but you can try wearing it with one or two strands of pearls. Combining different necklaces can sometimes make one less offensive. Ollie Wright is always happy to hear from readers, and will answer questions if you write to her in care of The Daily News, enclosing a self-addressed stamped envelope for reply. In Paris, they're wearing fur necklaces to emphasize high collarette and plunging back necklines.
