'GIDGITS' (Continued from Page One) Angeles Street one way streets. The council answered with a resounding, "NO!" Thompson then stated that they were setting themselves up as experts on this major type suggestion yet had to call in engineers to determine the feasibility of removing a "minor" item like limited parking. The study was not approved. Trailer Park Approved A request by Robert R. Brandt for permission to build a trailer park at $241 Jefferson St., was approved with the stipulation that revised plot plans be submitted for check against a proposed trailer park ordinance. An item that brought up a bit of argument was the request of Joseph Anton. Anton wanted a zone change from R-2 to C-3 for his property at 950 N. Harbor Blvd. Anton wanted the zone change to build a service station on his property. A petition bearing the signatures of seven of the adjacent property owners protesting the zone change was submitted. Wants Station Anton's argument was that when he bought the property and planned to use it for his home but since then a service station has been built across from him and now he wants to build one. The petitioners noted that the proposed business at that site wouldn't add to the appearance of the neighborhood. One spectator, Dave Nickey, said that he didn't blame Anton for wanting to convert his property to cash, but, he argued, the approval would cause neighbors Dear Ann: All my life I've been heavy. The fellows considered me the jolly type. Period. Two years ago I went on a diet and lost 75 pounds. I bought a new wardrobe, changed jobs and lightened my hair. I hate to sound immodest, but I'm a real dish now. Men have discovered me, but I seem to have a knack for attracting the wrong kind. My following consists of two married men whose wives don't understand them, one semi-separated musician who smokes crazy cigarettes, a 22 year-old law student who "just loves older women" and a 55-year-old lecher with a Mercedes-Benz. I know you'll say I'm a naughty girl but after sitting home date-less for 29 years I enjoy being noticed. How can I attract some decent men and get out of this rat race? — NEW ME Dear New You: Rat-race is right — and it sounds as if the rats are winning. No decent fellows will ask you out if you continue to run with this weird assortment of characters. Call a halt and be willing to stay home until someone worthwhile invites you out. One spectator, Dave Nickey, said that he didn't blame Anton for wanting to convert his property to cash, but, he argued, the approval would cause neighbors hardships in that their garages face on a 15 foot alley and entering and leaving the garages would be quite difficult. They now have to drive their cars onto their rear neighbor's property to enter and leave their garages. Planners' Action "Questionable" This particular request was not recommended by the city planning commission and this brought up a statement by Councilman Odra L. Chandler. He noted that the planning commission usually fails to recommend a zone change when there has to be a request for the removal of an existing structure. In this particular case Anton had two buildings on the property in question and he had already volunteered to remove them. Chandler stated he felt the planners' action was "questionable." An adding machine error cost a low bidder a $2 million tract for construction of a high school district facility. Reingardt and Joy's low was cast out because of the error. The contract for construct the Anaheim Union High School District's new Loara High School went to Beckner Construction Co. for a bid of $2,121,537. Reingardt and Joy had entered a bid of $2,009,960, to find too much of the $100,000 shortage in adding column of figures. The board of trustees discarded this bid and awarded it to next highest firm. More than 853,087 U.S. ports were issued or renewed in 1960, an increase of 16.5 percent of the total issued in 1959. Residents of New York California, Illinois and New Jersey obtained 439,210 passports 51 per cent of the total issued renewed. STOCK UP ON POSTAGE STAMPS — By doing this soon you'll save lots of time that might be spent standing in line later on. When you go to the Post Office, ask for a supply of labels which read, "ALL FOR LOCAL DELIVERY" and "ALL FOR OUT OF TOWN DELIVERY," so that before you mail your Christmas cards you can sort them into two groups, with the addresses all facing one way, thus expediting delivery." The Post Office will help you plan your Christmas mailings. Get a copy of Pamphlet No. 2, which gives full information about proper packaging and wrapping of parcels. FIRST CLASS POSTAGE IS BEST for mailing your Christmas cards. All cards sent by 4c postage may include a personal handwritten message, and they'll be forwarded or returned, if that becomes necessary. Be sure to put your return address on your Christmas card envelopes. It's socially correct to do this, and enables both you and your friends to keep your mailing lists up-to-date. Predicting that this year's Christmas mail will set an all time record, even exceeding the 11,000,000 pieces that were handled here in the pre-holiday season of 1960; the Postmaster pointed out the importance of planning your Christmas mailings now to avoid a lot of headaches when the Christmas rush comes in earnest. For added convenience, the post office windows will be open on weekdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., December 9 through December 23, inclusive. He said further, that through the excellent cooperation of the public during recent Christmas seasons, he has been able to get all of the Christmas cards and packages dispatched and delivered before Christmas Eve. "We can all make the 1961 'Mail Early For Christmas' Campaign a big success," he continued, "if we we'll all take a personal responsibility in planning our Christmas mailings so that cards and gift packages going to most distant points are mailed by December 10th, and earlier, if possible. Christmas packages for local destinations should be mailed by December 15, and be sure to mail your Christmas cards for friends and relatives in this area at least a week before Christmas." —Watch the Classified Columns.
