ANN LANDERS . . .
Knows What to Do,
But Not How to
Dear Ann Landers: I feel like the lowest thing that crawls, but my mind is made up. I know what I'm going to do. I just want you to tell me how to do it.
I'm a widow 44 who has been going with a grand person for six years. We never married because of his semi-invalid mother. She died three years ago and I thought we'd be married shortly after that, but he had to unwind some financial problems. Last Christmas he gave me an engagement ring — an opal — and asked me not to wear it on my left hand until he could see his way clear to set a wedding date.
Four months ago a friend I had not seen in 20 years was transferred to town. He's a bachelor and you guessed it — we are in love. He wants to marry me soon. I'm afraid the news will kill my fiance. He has no idea. Please help me.
BARBARA
Dear Barbara: I hope you won't feel hurt if the guy doesn't go to pieces right before your very eyes.
A man with the history you describe doesn't have the urge to merge. He just wants to go with a nice woman — as a companion.
Give him the news promptly, simply and honestly.
Dear Ann Landers: Our dog "Tag" is a very gentle Great Dane. We keep him tied up on a can't give these cats what's coming to them. Please tell me what to do. The neighbors who own the cats are unfriendly and we have very little to do with them.
FURIOUS D FAMILY
Dear Family: Tell the people next door that if you see their cats on your property one more time, you will call the humane society and have them picked up.
Roaming cats that constitute a nuisance can be removed, and these pesky felines are more than a nuisance, they are a threat. Do not fail to follow through.
Dear Ann Landers: When I was in the hospital recently a friend brought me a five pound box of chocolates. The box was purchased at a fine department store and the brand of candy is nationally known.
Because I had received several boxes of candy, I saved this particular box to open at home — which I did about a week after receiving it. To my astonishment I found the candy was dried out and coated with what looked like mildew.
The question is, shall I tell the person who brought the candy?
The box must have set him back at least $7.50
YES OR NO
Dear Ys: The answer is no. Don't tell the friend. It would serve no useful purpose and it may cause him embarrassment. Instead, return the box of candy to the store. They will be more than happy to replace it with fresh candy and I'm sure they will be most apologetic.
To learn how to keep your boy friend in line without losing him, send for ANN LANDERS' booklet, "Necking and Petting — And How Far To Go," enclosing with your request 20 cents in coin and a long, self-addressed, stamped envelope.
Ann Landers will be glad to help you with your problems. Send them to her in care of The Daily News enclosing a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Dear Ann Landers: Our dog "Tag" is a very gentle Great Dane. We keep him tied up on a long rope during the day and when someone can go along with him we let him run in the field.
Our neighbors have two of the mangiest, meanest cats that ever roamed the streets. These cats are running loose all the time and they seem to enjoy bothering Tag. They tip over his water pan and pester him all day.
Yesterday they got meaner than usual and scratched Tag alongside the ears. When I came out he was bleeding. Since Tag is tied up he

Boy Scouts Hold Arrow Ceremonial
Eighty-eight Boy Scouts, Explorers and Leaders attended the semi-annual Order of the Arrow Ceremonial at Camp Ahwahnee on Nov. 3 and 4.
A tremendous total of 650 man hours of labor were spent in a number of camp projects which included the dismantling and storage of tents the clearing away of rock and brush for the making of new campsites, on which were placed huge floor board tent frames and the cutting and stacking of wood to replenish the winter supply.
The highlight of every Order of the Arrow Ceremonial is the Ordeal in which candidates who seek acceptance into the Order are tested to prove their stamina and willingness to serve others. The scouts and scouters who successfully completed this Ordeal were:
From Anaheim, Scouts Ken Koon, Bruce Taylor, Ray Gilmore, Michael Conway, Jack Cote, George Palms, Richard Batler, Glenn Bradley, Tom Clarke, Bill Van Houten, Christopher Schapher, and Mr. Eugene Ellingford, Mr. Maurice Williams, Mr. Al Molter and Mr. Austin Van Houten.
After serving the Order of the Arrow for at least ten months, a Scout is eligible to seal his membership by completing the second test, the Brotherhood. Those who were accepted as Brotherhood members were:
John Ruth, Alan Nicholes, Greg Richards, Ray Robertson, David McClennan, Bob Halstead, Mr. Bob Halstead Sr., all of Anaheim.

Building May Hit $50 Million
Anaheim's current building rate points to another $50 million year.
That is the prediction as the fantastic surge of apartment and commercial construction, similar to the 1955 boom, continues.
In the past two weeks the city has issued permits totaling better than $6 million. The annual figure now stands at better than $40 million with two months to go.
The greatest single permit was issued for construction of 442-unit apartment buildings to be erected on Westchester-Del Monte-Bella Vista Sts. in the northwest section of the city.
