County Men Win Cal. Fair Awards
WALTERS
Two Orange County artists have been awarded top prizes in the competition for a share of the $11,000 of premium money offered by the California State Fair Art Show. Mrs. Buddie Shrien Delano, Fain Director in charge of the century old show, so announced today. A purchase award for $200 and two nonpurchase awards for $100 were given to Ray Hein, 531 Aliso Ave., Newport Beach, for his entries in the jewelry division and the metal work competition.
Dextra Frankei, 444 Cabrillo Terrace, Corona del Mar, won a $100 purchase award for his print "Elements of Puissance." Hein's jewelry entries are entitled "Gold Pendant" and "Silver and Pearl Pin." "Silver Condiment Bowl" is the title of his winner in the metal work claaks.
Along with a record number of 1,885 other art show entries, the work of these men will be on display in the Art Building of the Fair throughout its 12-day run, which begins August 30.
The purchase award designation of the prize means that the work of art will become part of the State Fairs permanent art collection, which is available for loan exhibition.
Also featured by the Art Show is its theme, "Art in Action." To carry out the theme, there will be silk screen artists, oil painters, weavers, ceramic artists and a mosaic muralist on hand to create works of art in view of the fairgoers.

Junior Ebbs Reports A
A new barbeque for the Sitton Home, International Hostessing and creative art classes for children have kept the Junior Ebbs busy this summer.
As part of their activities on behalf of the Albert Sitton Home, the club has spearheaded efforts to build a barbeque for the home. The Sitton Home located in Orange, is maintained by the County for care of children who are wards of the Court.
Mrs. Donald Smith, dean of chairman of the junior club and Mrs. Robert Webb, youth chairman, were instrumental in organizing the project which includes a three foot grill, work surfaces, and storage areas with planters on each end. It will be large enough to serve 45 children at one time.
The barbeque was made reality through the efforts of Mrs. Smith, with help from husband, Don, and son, Terrie and E. C. Elliot. All materials for the project were donated by local firms.
International Hostessing promises to be a fascinating project for members of the Junior Ebell Club. This new assignment, a statewide project of the California Federation of Women's Clubs, Junior Membership, is being carried out in conjunction with the Foreign Relations Program of the University.

There isn't any question about it, if the Cold War continues its current trend, more than just auditoriums will be built underground to protect us from a nuclear attack.
In the east they have subways. Many schools for years have been built with basements.
The trend to go underground in California is on the Verge of reality. Some are even considering ways to construct swimming pools which could double for fallout shelters by having a special protection top installed.
This is all in the future. But sometimes the future creeps up faster than we think and becomes tomorrow.
