Dedicated service for nearly a century Our founders' aim: "To always provide Orange County families with the most modern facilities and warm-heart Our founders' aim: "To always provide Orange County families with the most modern facilities and warm-hearted neighborly service; with understanding and respect for faiths and creeds. No sorrowing family will ever be denied service because of financial circumstances." Four generations have found that at Backs, Troutman & Kaulbars. It costs no more to have the finest. NOW IN OUR BEAUTIFUL NEW BUILDING AT 1617 WEST LA PALMA at EUCLID, ANAHEIM BACKS, BACKS, TROUTMAN, KAULBARS The Community Funeral Director PR 2-1617 Demand For Electrical Homes Up The much-publicized economic recession apparently has had little effect on the mounting demand of Southern Californians for all-electric homes, judging from figures cited by Joseph A. Long, district manager for Southern California Edison Company. Contracts for construction of Gold Medallion (all-electric homes and apartments in Edison's service territory) for the first half of 1961 are up 221 per cent over the corresponding figure for last year, Long announced. An increase of 35 per cent for the same period was reported in contracts for constructio nof Bronze Medallion living units — those which, while not "total-electric", meet specified standards of excellence in wiring, lighting and built-in major electrical appliances such as ranges and ovens. Provide Orange County homes and warm-hearted, caring and respect for all people will ever be denied advances." Four generaman & Kaulbars. PORTED in contracts for construc-tio nof Bronze Medallion living units — those which, while not "total-electric", meet specified standards of excellence in wiring, lighting and built-in major electrical appliances such as ranges and ovens. The gains in construction of Gold and Bronze Medallion homes were achieved despite an over-all decline of 12 per cent in the total number of dwelling units completed, as compared with the first six months of 1960, the Edison official pointed out. 'Cactus Pappy' Addresses Group E. Grove Teaney, known to thousands of cactophiles as 'Cactus Pappy,' organizer of the Orange County Cactus and Succulent Society and writer for many of the C and S Club papers, spoke on the culture of cactus an disucculents at the meeting of the Orange County group yesterday in the home of Harry Marshall in Tustin. Mrs. Ruth Stanton of Wood-lawn, delegate for the Society, who has just returned from the convention in Mexico City, gave a report on her trip. Kuchel Hits Aid Program U. S. Senator Thomas H. Kuchel, of California and Anaheim opposed in a filmed television program, President Kennedy's request for long-term "backdoor spending" for foreign aid and repeated prior demands for a ban on United States assistance to Communist satellite countries. In remarks filmed for showing over California stations this weekend, the Senior California Senator said: "America's foreign policy must, of course, be based on the single question of what is in the best interests of our country's security. For the last 15 years, we have had, as one segment of that policy, the mu- READY — Modern mobile marines, ready to deliver a knock-out punch to threatening aggressor powers, provide America with a “big stick” to carry in defense of free men around the globe. Becoming a part of this mighty deterrent force, Pvt. Rodge F. Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Butler of 1647 S. Pounders Lane, Anaheim, completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. “America’s foreign policy must, of course, be based on the single question of what is in the best interests of our country’s security. For the last 15 years, we have had, as one segment of that policy, the mutual security law, so-called foreign aid. The theory of it has been to assist free nations, militarily as well as economically, so those nations and the United State might better face the constant danger of Communist subversion, infiltration or aggression. It is, I think, a modern adaptation of the old truth, ‘In union there is strength.’ “Mutual security has been supported by every President, every Secretary of State, every Secretary of Defense and every member of the Military Joint Chiefs of Staff since Congress first enacted it. Much of it has served its purpose well. Without our assistance, many pro-Western countries would have become a Soviet satellite. Turkey very well could have been gone. Formosa would have been overrun. Other examples, I am sure, readily come to your mind.” Anaheim Gazette PAGE 1 Anaheim, California, Thursday, August 10, 1961 Anaheim Cubs Busy In the remaining weeks of summer, Cub Scouts of the Northern Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America, are enjoying a series of activities known to them as the Outdoor Festival. College Offers Fire Courses Three more fire science courses are being offered at Santa Ana College this fall, continuing a highly successful program of providing college credit academic work for Orange County firemen and students. The refunds will represent the difference between revenues collected since May 6, 1960, and the reduced rates ordered by the Commission last year. The action was taken after the State Supreme Court on July 19 turned down a petition by Dyke for a rehearing on the court's decision upholding the PUC order rolling back the company's flat rates from $3.75 to $3 a month. Dyke has been charging the $3.75 flat rate pending the appeal. At the same time, the Commission formally ended a stay of the effective date of its rollback order pending the appeal to the State Supreme Court. Last week the Commission denied another petition by Dyke for a further delay to carry the appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Many new facilities added this spring makes the high mountain camp an ideal setting for a family vacation. Swimming, volleyball, hiking, fishing, or just lounging are provided for, according to Poirier. Square dancing, camp fires, and informal games are planned and child care will be available. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Long will direct the registration. Family Camp folders will be mailed on request from the Anaheim YMCA office, KE 5-2165. Name Jr. Leader Training Head Fred Allison, leadership training chairman of the Northern Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America, announced the appointment of Tomnie Burns as chairman of the Council's 1961 Junior Leader Training program. Burns, currently serving as Scout Roundtable Commissioner for the Anaheim District, has taken Woodbadge Training in Northern California and has headed several training sessions during the past year in our Council. The first half of the Junior Leader Training program, (set-up to train boy leaders of Scouting), will take place on Sept. 29 at the Firestone Scout Reservation in Brea.
