Among the deeds filed here is the name of Alfred Robinson who sold to C. H. Fiske 1096 acres of land for $1096, or a dollar an acre. Also recorded was the name of S. S. Dunnels who sold to D. M. Dorman title and interest to the wharf and tidelands of Newport Harbor for $200. Unbelievable, isn't it? Well, it happened—in 1872.
This is also the 64th anniversary of the big whale incident in Long Beach. A large whale was washed ashore at Long Beach in 1897 and a crowd of Anaheimers went down to take a look at it. Among the onlookers were a Mr. and Mrs. Seale and family. The Seales looked at the whale and everybody had a whale of a time.

Ever notice how the pamphlets in an optometrist's office make your eyes smart? And those in a dentist's office make your teeth throb?
The Mad in Mademoiselle has really been played up this month. Harvard Lampoon took it over on invitation from the editors and turned it into a circus of satire including the ads. Walrus-scented perfume indeed!
The new presidential car does not have a built-in rocker but it is equipped with a footrest for maximum comfort.
It was reported recently that Jackie Kennedy wore her long gloves like a true professional at the social function in London. The queen was born to them so wears them easily and well, as to be expected, but Jackie surprised everyone in taking to them so naturally. This seems to indicate that the rest of us look like schnooks in gloves. There must be more to it than getting them on the right hands.
